What do you guys think so far of these new video cards?

What I think is there's no point to get the latest and greatest card from either company.
Most games don't require the power and you're just throwing money away. Get a model or two before.

Most newer and recently released graphics intensive games would certainly benefit. I don't know of any single card that gets a steady 80+ FPS at 1440P in most newer titles when maxed (JC3, GTA V, Arkham Knight, R6 Siege, etc.). 140+ FPS would be great.

I did say "most games".
Lots of gamers also are still on 1080p and don't need 340fps to play a game smoothly.

You also said "require the power" - no new games require that sort of power. It's not about requiring the power - that'd be missing the point of using a high end card. Just because games don't require it doesn't mean people are throwing money away - as your post certainly implied.

They are depending on what usage they are giving the card.
A person that plays at 1080p with everything on high and happy with a 40/50/60fps is wasting money buying a 980ti when they can get roughly the same performance with a 970/980.
I always buy a model or two beneath the latest card and play all my games on max settings while saving a few hundred dollars.
I'm just afraid of getting an NV card since they been "gimpworks"-ing their cards. The gtx 7xx has fallen behind for example.
Nice to see the next wave coming from Nvidia, but I will stick with my 980 for another year or two, at least.
After just picking up a 2nd 980 Ti, I'm thinking I'm waiting for Volta. That is unless Pascal is a pretty decent jump and I can sell my current cards for a fair amount. But I'll most likely skip Pascal.
