What brand PSU are you using, did you buy it on the cheap? As you would need a good PSU to properly power up that machine, also have you used thermal paste when connecting the heatsink to the processor and is the heatsink seated properly? do you have the CMOS jumper set to normal not clear when booting up the machine?

Sounds like a possible short. To check for this set the motherboard up outside of the case, like on the box or a phone book.

I would check for simpler things first. Try it with the bare minimum, 1 stick of RAM, the CPU, and GPU, see if it boots to BIOS.

I would also check the PSU. You can "hot-wire" it to see if it will power a fan while not hooked up to the mobo. What kind of PSU is it, 500w does not mean much.

It is recommended to have a heatsink when powering up your machine yes as the CPU will just overheat and this may cause the machine not to boot at all.

TFL_DARKEXILE

Yes you need a heatsink, modern CPU's can burn up in seconds. Do you not have one? Some motherboards will not start up with out a CPU fan hooked up

It is quite easy to hot wire it, other than putting it in another PC there is not much you can do.

Try clearing the CMOS of the motherboard. This solved a similar problem I had a similar problem when I built my first computer.

@ch5richards: Thanks for that link, man. I had been wondering how to do that for a while now. =)

TFL_DARKEXILE

No it will not burnout like i mentioned before, the heatsink keeps it cool

It is possible to have burnout your cpu from powering it up without a heatsink in the first place, since it was your first build you need to be more careful

TFL_DARKEXILE

Like I mentioned above, try clearing your CMOS. Also, you need to plug the power for the heatsink's fan into the motherboard. If you didn't, that's probably your problem.

TFL_DARKEXILE

1. What is the brand Power supply you used (the new one you just used)

2. Wattage?

Obviously it was the psu in the first place, if you just connected a psu you had laying around could result to same issue without a proper powersupply it wont work

No it won't, it won't even start with many motherboards. You need to put the heatsink on the CPU and plug the fan in.

Yes it can, it is necessary to have a heatsink, make sure you also apply a substance called thermal paste before placing the heatsink on top of the processor.

this deserves a...

/facepalm

/sigh

both while shaking your head in wonderment :p

P.S. If you are not sure what you are doing find someone who does, or get on your buddies comp and find a how-to guide on the internet. You could cost yourself quite a bit of cash if you had wound up frying your CPU :/

Um, ok....no heatsink, put the heatsink on!!!! :D

Also, you won't hear the post(1 beep) or any other beeps without hooking up some speakers first. It's strange that you said there were NO beeps so this leads me to speculate that you didn't have any speaker plugged in.

Actually, most motherboards have an onboard speaker for POST notification alarms. Older systems relied on the system speaker (part of the case and connected directly to the mobo) for this purpose. No sound will come out of the external speakers until the OS has booted.
