Ok i am a complete computer NOOB! I have no idea what is good in a computer and if my laptop or my pc breaks i usually just go on here or wiki answers for someone to fix it for me :) . Anyway my desktop is really slow now and even loading up IE can take a few minutes.

I am looking at getting a new Desktop as you get more for your money and my laptop is currently working fine (*fingers crossed*). I have a fairly low budget of £500 but im hoping there are some more knowledgeable people on here who can help me find a decent pc for that range.

I'd prefer the PC to come with windows 7 and if it could run the follow games fairly smoothly:

Fallout new vegas (when released)

Sims 3

Team Fortress 2

Maybe Gta 4 although my friend says this is a fairly spec demanding game.

If you have any suggestions for decent PC's within my price range could you please send me a private message so i have something permanent to refer back to. Also being an absolute tech noob im not looking for a build it yourself job as i would have no idea on where to start.

Thanks in advance!

this is the best i could do

http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=405658&CatId=3585

core 2 quad q8400, 4gb ddr2-800 gts 250 for $516 and change (including VAT)

this will do all of the above and then some come with windows 7 home 64-bit, mouse and keyboard. need to come up with a monitor and speakers/headphones however. not a bad buy youd be almost on par with me if i were to take one of my gpu's out.. :P

here ill even run the system requirements of gta 4 against this bad boy:

cpu required core 2 quad q6700 @ 2.4ghz you have core 2 quad q8400 2.66ghz, hd 4870 = you have a gts 250 these two are roughly equal in preformance, 2gb ram vs your 4gb ram. idk it sells itself.

You're not going to find a pre-built machine that's capable of running all those games at that price. Your best bet is honestly going to be to pick up a relatively cheap desktop from Dell (or HP/Gateway/whoever) and upgrade the graphics card yourself. On the UK Dell site I customised a base-level Inspiron 570 with an Athlon II X2 240 to have 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive instead of the base configuration with 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. The cost of the machine was just under £400. For another ~£75 you can pick up a 512MB HD5670 which is probably the best card in that price range.

Definitely a good deal, but I'd be pretty hesitant to purchase an LGA 775 platform setup at this point in time. Then again, the guy probably isn't going to take advantage of the ability to upgrade the processor...

This to me looks good but then again i really have no idea what makes a pc good/bad. Im sure i can pick up a decent monitor fairly cheap from somewhere to go along with this, i was reading somewhere that some cards or something cant handle certain screen resolutions or something of the other. Is this the case here? if so what screen size should i be looking for? To the other people on this forum. As much as i would like to build my own pc i am not exactly good with this kind of thing, anything fiddly would really get me frustrated and i'd end up breaking something. If i had the money to buy the parts and maybe have extra to re-buy all the stuff i am likely to break and with someone who knows what they are doing then would go for it.

A screen resolution of 1440x900 would be optimal, with a 1680x1050 resolution being slightly overwhelming for the card in certain games.

Not everyone wants to build a pc plus most of the time, a pre-build is cheaper than a custom built. Now I'm not saying that a custom PC is worse because its not. Its just its not always the right soluation for the party in question.

True but in the west things are more expensive, pre-builts tend to run cheaper for the first time pc gamer.
