PC Gamer does seem to be one of the first reviews out, but it's also drawing a lot of flak from other journalists saying PCG have got it wrong

Given today's tendency to give average games about 70%, there has to be something very different between how PC Gamer saw it and how other reviewers see it.
And I wouldn't ever put serious consideration into any official' magazine review. Gamesmaster or GamePro Ger, no idea.Other review scores

I bet he is just a horrible reviewer. If he is wrong, hopefully he is fired. Makes Pc Gamer look bad.

Yeah guys, lets call anyone willing to give their honest opinion on a game and not willing to make a concession on a game they feel strongly about "terrible" and hope they get banned! That's a mature attitude!
By simply going against the grain and being the first to review he's already earned his 15 mins of fame. I call troll myself.
I like how no one here has played it but still feels qualified to call any review right or wrong.
I have no idea if they are accurate, and I strongly disagreed with their assessment of Dragon Age 2, but let's not forget that this is potentially one of the games that Square Enix was paying people to write good things about in the Wainwright scandal.

Yeah if we're going to call the quality of a review and it's reviewer into question, let's at least play or know about the damn game ourselves instead of looking like idiots if it turns out he's right and we echo the same opinion.
I'll play it myself but my expectations have lowered based on this reviewnutcrackrabsolutely. Ive played all the hitman games over the years. Even with their flaws I did enjoy them a lot. I'm a little worried absolution looks more like SC:Conviction than a hitman game but watching the play through of the 5 hits in 1 level, it does still seem like a hitman game.
Has anyone actually read the review? Or are you all just looking at the score and drawing a conclusion?the_ChEeSe_mAn2I read the review, thats why I posted about it. Its not online though so Im not sure I can really share it.

It does make me scratch my head especially when the game is getting praised by basically every other reviewer at this time.. sSubZerOohave you not noticed the trend that pre-release reviews are generally very positive for games? I think publishers have an embargo against bad pre-release reviews of games most of the time. After its released though publishers cant control negative reviews.
If you aren't sure, you can always wait for more reviews.
Certainly, I wouldn't put much stock in PC Gamer reviews. There have been a number of reviews that seemed off since the mid 90's, even moreso than Gamespot reviews.
PC Gamer also gave Max Payne 50/100.
Not to mention gave two of this gensz most dissapointing games super amazing reviews, Dragon Age 2 and Farcry2.
PC Gamer is not the end all for pc gaming reviews, I have dissagreed with them many times in the past.
Praising Dragon Age2 like its the best rpg ever and acting like Farcry2 wasnt a pile of crap to. While MAx Payne3 which is a good game gets 50/100?
Ill try Hitman myself and make a judgement, the other reviews are 8/10 and 9/10 ones so far so well see.
Trust me. The reviewer is full of crap. You'll see when you play it for yourself.PC Gamer also gave Max Payne 50/100.

I already have it preordered, Ive just learned over the years nto to pay attention to reviews, especially pc gamer ones.
I am lookign at some other reviews right now and here is what we have:
- 90% - Playstation OPfficial Magazine UK = This is a fantastic package - a dark, witty tale of death and retribution that can be whatever you want it to. It captures the ebb and flow of tension that stealth games forgot about years ago, but presents it in a way that feels utterly contemporary.
- 90% - Playstation Official Magazine Australia = Hitman: Absolution absolutely nails the modern gaming trope of presenting oodles of gameplay choice. It would be an insult to polarise Absolution into 'stealth' or 'action', where the real beauty of the game is found in the fertile grey area in between.
- 88% - Game Informer - The levels are sprawling, gorgeous, multifaceted playgrounds to hunt down and kill your targets in, and feature some of the most impressive crowds seen this generation.
- 90% - Official Xbox Magazein UK - Everything about the world revolves around entertaining you, whether it's the wide scope of murder-options or the amazing dialogue in between. Whatever kind of killer you decide you want to be, Absolution is an unmissable hit.
The only other review out is the PC Gamer one, as you can see they are in the minoriety. Seen the first 4 levels on youtube and it seemed fun as hell to me, will be interesting to see for myself this week.
Let's say someone that is a big fps fan that never played an rpg before. Would you trust his opinion on reviewing an rpg in an official magazine that should include professionals that should not be biased and review based purely on their ignorant opinion and lack of reseach?
It's a persons opinion for crying out loud, he's allowed to vote the game however he likes whether it is biased or not. Save your judgment until you've played the game for yourself.
Why are so many of you worried about numerical values used in just another subjective review of a videogame? PC Gamer's percentages don't actually mean anything, they're just a gauge for stupid people who don't want to bother reading the review and want to assume things based off of a number.

"The moral of this story? Dont trust blog posts with no firsthand knowledge of a game to re-write an existing review. Things end badly for everyone."
Conan O'Brien rated it Aqua Marine (and seemed to like it), so I'd say I will probably be buying it based on his completely amateur review and lack of knowledge of videogames in general.
Also PC Gamer I like, but like with anyone their reviews are their opinions, so take it with a grain of salt and look at other reviews too.

Sadly the PC Gamer sounded less like fanboyish ramblings and more like valid criticisms.
I guess the main killer points for me are.
-Levels are broken up into segments with linear progression
-Flawed disguised mechanics that require instinct which requires you to perform kills to replenish
-No loadouts at the start of missions
-Loadouts don't carry over
-Focus on story, not gameplay
-Gameplay choices restricted to level design
-Assassinations that play out in gunkata mode
It's a no-buy for me. At least until it hits bargain bin Steam prices
