A German gamemagazine called "Gamestar" has testetd GTA 4 on PC:
The result:
You will only be able to play on low graphics with a geforce 7900 gtx or gt2!!
On older cards the game crashes!! and on pentium d's and pentium 4's too!
the magazine dont tested it with ATI cards because the game crashed but rockstar said that they will fix this problem!
On older card then a geforce 7900 it maybe will run on 800x600 or lower. on 1024x786 on a geforce 7600 it laggs like hell they say!
The graphics on low are looking like the graphics on the consoles.
The minimum required processor to play the game fine is a amd athlon 64 x2 4000+ or a core 2 duo with the same speed. If someone hs a geforce 8500, the game wil crash!
Remember that Gamestar only tested all low end cards with 1024x768 and not with 800x600 or 640x480!!
they had an older version of the game were ati cards were not supported but in the final version they will be supported
You need atleast for the lowest graphics settings:
3,8 Ghz Intel Pentium D or an AMD Athlon 64 3700+
1 Gb Ram
14,9 Gb HDD Space
A Geforce 7300-7800(not on the requirements but it will run the game on lower settings then 1024x786)(for 640x480 or 800x600) or a 7900 GTX for (1024x768)(You will also run it on a Geforce 6800 but only on 640x480 on low graphics and without trafic or it will lagg)
For medium graphics settings with resolution 1280x1024
Core 2 Duo E4400 or an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
2 Gigs of Ram
14,9 GB HDD Space
An Geforce 8800
For High graphics settings with resolution 1680x1050
An Core 2 Duo E8600 or AMD Phenom 9650
4 Gigs Ram
14,9 Gigs HDD Space
Geforce GTX 200
Â
- It needs finally 14,9 GB on HDD.
- With a High-End-PC (Core Quad, 4 GB RAM and GeForce GTX280) u can play it on 1680x1050 and maximum details solid, but there also are a bit droprate at fps..
- With a Low-PC (AMD X2 4000+, 1 GB RAM and GeForce 8600 GT) u can play it on 1024x728 and low details without droprates..
- Using a Pentium D or an other Single-Core-CPU the Game crashed..
- ATI Radeon Cards have a lot problems with the performance. It will be fix soon, Take2 said.
- Also with Geforce 7series Cards there are problems.. it will be fix, too.Â

Medium with an 8800? Nice optimization I dont want to belive it Yes, I hope this is not real. It would be worse than Crysis!....and so the GTA IV hate begins....attirex
Heheheh.. Ohhh that would be a shame... My master plan is working...
LOL, ATI strinkes again with incompatible drivers :PDaytona_178I don't get this (not you - ATI). It's the devs that make them incompatible, they seem to favour nvidia usually, bias or partnership or nVidia having bought them out or whatever, how many times do you boot up a game to see "nVidia - the way it's meant to be played", then compare that to ATI's stamp. A lot rarer. it's so lazy, if these requirements are true, it would be more demanding than crysis, which is stupid, as it doesn't look as good. They just get in there first, and put a good deal down i'm guessing. Leaving ATI, who, lets face it, are ahead of nVidia this series, with the sloppy seconds.
[QUOTE="Daytona_178"]LOL, ATI strinkes again with incompatible drivers :PEnosh88
yeah it's ATIs fault that rockstar can't make their game working on ati cards
but it IS ATI's fault for making their graphics cards so much better than nvidias that nvidia has to buy out the devs to do piss poor optimization for ATI cards

QFT.of course it got a high score, its bought and paid for...
Â
look at what it got here/./.
a perfect 10 out of 10.. on the x360... yet in the review when you read it, it says: "the game is not without its flaws" then how did it get a perfect 10 out of 10?
bought and paid for.

QFT.i find it hilarious that these people "think" that ati is stomping nvidia, they arent, they are just becoming better competition. lol
but do you realize that the ATI u so adore is owned by AMD, which has been for the past few years getting its A$$ handed to them by intel...
which is why amd is pushing this new Phenom II (am2+) cpu. (hopefully a good upgrade over my 6000+ am2)
im not fanboy of nvidia or intel, im just tired of all the biased BS i see in these forums
Wow. So is that better than the console version? biggest_loserYes. The PC only reviewers from a PC only magazine gave the PC version of GTA a higher score than the Console version of said game which they didn't review. :)

Actually NVIDIA have tools that make games more optimized for NVIDIA cards,,,you cant blame them for being more helpful towards the developers! For example in Crysis the developers said that NVIDIA worked very closely with them to help make the game run better....sounds like a good business strategy if you ask me!medium settings with a 8800 gpu? i dont want to believe itSamiRDuran
Â
That is scary. If an 8800 gpu cannot even run GTA4 on high (high, not absolute max), then that just points to bad optimization without second doubts.

have games that are (nvidia, the way it was meant to be played) and (ati, whatever it is they stamp on there lol) both...
cause you will have people that buy the little more pricier nvidia, and you will have the ones that buy the cheaper ati,Â
some people like the color green or red,Â
some people are bound to listening to their friend too much and go with what they suggest, without even looking into it.
so both companies would make more money.
but some people just wont look at it that way.
Lol guys dont take those german magazine reviews seriously. They tested GTA IV like 1-2 months ago so they probably played uncompleted version of the GTA 4 and it wasn't fully correctly optimized then.ReneRumberg
I hope so.
I dont wanna play on Slightly higher than medium settings .
You will only be able to play on low graphics with a geforce 7900 gtx or gt2!!
The graphics on low are looking like the graphics on the consoles.Macutchi
If this is true then i dont understand all the optimization complaints. 7900 is faster than the consoles gpu on paper but real world performance is very similar. I had the 7900 for awhile and I have a habit of comparing demos of multiplatform games.
The traffic density slider is probably what brings down performance more than anything.
