Look Im a gamer I play both pc and console games I prefer FPS on the pc obviously....but I hate the fact that I need a super rig to play...I got 2 sli so that's not the issue....

Pc games install every thing on the computer right? Then why do I need more power then a PS3 to play them? Why cant somebody create a mode in windows that shuts down everything apart from the progs the game needs? How hard can it be?

Maybe im ignorant can someone please in lighting me

It's all about dedication of the components and variables in programming.

1.) Your PC can do a whole slew of things that your PS3 cannot.  It can because its hardware is designed to do a number of different things.  Whereas the PS3 is designed for...games.

2.) Because of the standardization of peripherals inside a console, a developer can mess with code to achieve the maximum performance for their software knowing that this is th same hardware that the software will be run on worldwide.  The same cannot be said for PC games which have almost limitless variables when it comes to programming for them.

^ guys above me said it right. The pc can do what a PS3 can easily. Pc gaming is just a bit more expensive, but in return for that cost, you get MUCH better looking games and get to experience future graphics MUCH faster than the consoles will. I'm not a console hater (i own a 360 and ps3) but I dont imagine I'll be playing Crysis maxed out on them anytime soon.

call me an idiot (and you'd probably be right as i dont know much about operating systems) but I've said It might be cool if windows came with a kind of dual boot mode just for gaming, so all you'd have running is essential drivers for gaming and nothing else. Possibly an additional mode just for single player games when not even internet and firewall stuff is running, just the bare essentials for my game to run. When I'm done gaming i can just boot back into regular windows with all its crap that i never use.

I do think its a decent idea, a sort of "MinWin" for games maybe... Its not really neccessary though, I generally notice very little performance difference as long as all "apps" are closed. Shutting down background things like messengers, virus, etc makes very little performance difference for the most part.

Hey steady on! They probably just mean two graphics cards in SLI. Even if they meant two pairs of graphics cards in SLI then you can have quad SLI. Either way, no need to jump down their throat and add a nasty quote to your sig!

if you have an AMD processor you can do what you are suggesting. there is a program amd made called fusionbeta or something. it shuts down all unnessacary processes, and only uses the stuff for windows to work. and gives an automatice overclock on the graphics card and cpu. i have seen someone use it before and it really help the perfromance

You can do that, its called "hardware profiles". You can select what services in window you don't want to load at startup. Whenever you turn on your PC you can select to boot normal windows or the hardware profile you created. But its a huge waste of time because it makes no difference, especially on a modern PC that you would use for gaming. To keep your PC in the best condition for gaming simply close any hardware intensive programs if you plan on gaming, and every week or so degfrag you harddrive
