Just got a new laptop, and I'm looking to buy some games which can keep you entertained for hundreds of hours. I already have oblivion and morrowind, but if there are any good games that just dont get boring, even if they have a short story, on or offline, it would be great

A good MMO. If you liked Oblivion you might want to take a look at Fallout 3.

if you're into racing arcades - Blur and Split Second will do the trick

if you're into shooters - Unreal Tournament 2004, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or personally my favorite if you're got some friends to play with Borderlands

try Guild Wars if you're into RPGs

The Elder Scrolls is an excellent series to start out with.

For single-player RPGs I like The Witcher EE, Dragon Age, and both Mass Effects.

Hmm well Dragon Age has kept me busy since January. The game is massive and you really can't do it justice with just one playthrough. Also, I recommend Mass Effect as well, same reasoning.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm an Impulse user.:P

Don't have to run Impulse in the background to run a game - just click the Desktop icon.:)

For me any MP FPS does the trick, right now BC2 is my current MP "addiction" (100+ hours), but you should try maybe Mass Effect (multiple playthroughs), titan quest (40+ hours and I still must finish the last act - 1st char btw), CoD4, CSS, TF2.

I don't know about 100's of hours, but I played each of these at least 70+ hours:

King's Bounty: Armored Princess

Titan Quest + Immortal Throne

Morrowind

I rarely play games for that amount of time, but these are the most recent that held my attention (or made me replay a few times). There's some older games too but probably too old for this thread.

Guildwars

You probably can find all the campaigns and expansion pack for less than $50.

Well I would def pick up morrowind and/or oblivion during the sales both GOTY editions on steam this weekend. Its 5 dollars for Morrowind GOTY edition and $8.50 for Oblivion GOTY edition also. Umm Counter Strike: Source is a very fun game priced at 20 dollars and well worth the price. If your looking for some zombie killing games I would check out Killing Floor also for 20 dollars its such an amazing game updated regulary also. And If you like rpgs more you check out the Diablo series you can get them very cheap nowaday.

You can PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the heads up! Probably will get Morrowind soon. For me, I'd say Counter-Strike, Guild Wars, Oblivion, StarCraft, and WarCraft III are all very good games. If you don't have SC and WC3, then I highly suggest you get them. Now.

Newbster. I've clocked almost five times that in StarCraft *evil laugh*

Talking about recent games, I suggest Oblivion (that as said before is 8,5$ on Steam), Fallout 3 (didn't really enjoy this game *so much* but I'm near the 200 hours mark), Empire and Napoleon Total War, Mass Effect 1 + 2 (probably won't last 100 hours if you go through a single playthrough of both, but given their replayability it's highly likely that you will surpass the 100 hour mark with ME1 alone) and of course WoW.

edit: how could I forget, recent Valve games (L4D2, TF2, Portal).

Hmm depends on what you like I guess. I myself have gotten close to 500 hours of gameplay in Team Fortress 2 and still play and enjoy it.

Got about 400 hours in Guild Wars but do not play any longer. Close to 200 hours of Street Fighter IV. Also Diablo series and Titan quest back in the day. Also Battle Realms. Again, depends on what you like.

Games that I've spent a REALLY long time playing (200+ at least): Sims 2 Master of Orion 2/Galactic Civilizations 2 Homeworld 1 and 2 Freelancer Rise of Nations Oblivion Guild Wars Any Unreal Tournament game Counterstrike I can't, of course, guarantee you'll not get bored of these games, only that they have a lot of content to play around with, and I spent a long time playing them :)

I find i get bored after 40-80 hours in any online FPS - i prefer online RTS's, i've spend almost 300 hours in Dawn of War II/Chaos Rising, and a crapload in Company of Heroes as well (although i never really played online, just in skirmishes against the AI

i would reccomend both those games

I've never gotten bored of BF2 and BF2142. I don't want to even know how many hours of play I have from my multiple BF2 accounts.

For me its mostly online FSP : l4d2 - 500+ hours ; bf2 , bf 1942 - cant tell in hours , but A LOT . Same goes with RTS , TBS : huge amounts of time spent on MTW , American conquest , CiV4 , Sins of a solar empire and so on...

Neither Fallout 3 , oblivion got me interested more than 30 hours , and other sp games end within 60 hours (Dragon Age) at best .

Team Fortress 2. I have 730 hours on it, which would make it my most played game of all time that isn't made by Blizzard.

O, and it's free this weekend and half off. Check it out!

Counter Strike Source, I have near 1000 hours of it. Although I have been playing it since 04, and I played much more back in 06.
