:DHi

i've bought a lot of pc games..Maybe 200 over the years..but haven't finished that many..the ones I've finished below

Fable

Baldur's Gate 1& 2

Sanitarium

Geneforge

Planescape Torment

I've noticed that most of the ones I finish seem to be older games..I see A lot of pc gamers here that have a lot of games...How many actually do you think you finished..?..For me it seems all the older games seemed to be just plain more fun..I think for me a lot of games flat get boring part of the way through.....It's the rare jewell I treasure.

I'm with you...I have something like 160 games, but the ones that I can actually remember finishing include:

FEAR (though I got bored within minutes of playing FEAR: Extraction Point)
Half Life 2 (tried playing the first Half Life about 5 years ago, but got bored almost instantaniously)
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade
Rogue Trooper
Gun Metal (which was only something like 5 hours long)
NFS2, NFSU
Flatout, Flatout 2
Trackmania Sunrise Extreme, Trackmania United (I'm a couple of tracks away from finishing)

(notice how more than half of those are car racing games...hmmm, they seem to hold my attention for longer, because as the game progresses, your opponents actually get better with you, and it's not just mindless repetition for hours on end)

So many games have started out by grabbing my attention, but they never hold it for long, namely Far Cry, Company of Heroes, Starcraft, STALKER, CnC3, etc.

So many people complain about how short games are these days, but I think a lot of PC gamers don't actually finish the majority of games that they have.

I probably finish about half of the games I buy, over the last year or so I've probably purchased about 20-25 games. I'd love to have the time to complete most of the ones I do buy but between work and family there just isn't enough time. So I only complete the ones that are really good. As far as older games being better, I would say they certainly had better story lines, part of this is due to older games being less dependent on graphics. Although the gameplay has improved dramatically over the years (IMHO). I tried playing Deus Ex recently and couldn't finish because of the rough antiquated gameplay, the story was great but it just wasn't that fun.

Half Life 1+2, Diablo 2, Fable: Lost Chapters, Starcraft+Broodwar, Quake 3+4, Unreal Tournament 1. I've beaten practically all the games I own, but out of all my PC games these are the only ones I have gotten everything in, and done absolutely everything there is to do in them.

Hmm..

Half Life 2

Half Life 2

Half Life: Opposing Force

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Uh.. can't really think of anymore. I don't really play PC games for singleplayer, it's all about multiplayer. I've beaten a ton of console games though.

Uhmm, just on the PC alone I have beaten more games then I can possibly list. Generally, whatever is on my XFire account I have beaten, and that doesn't include the games I beat prior to getting xfire.

I completed almost all games I own, rented or borrowed, which are to many to list (or remember :P). Even if I don't really enjoy the game I always feel compelled to go through the whole thing at least once, hoping the ending will be worth it.. Only in recent years do I sometimes get something from the bargain bin and not get around to actually playing it (from my profile: rogue spear, barbarian invasion, ES3, mechwarrior 4 and homeworld 2).

I've completed just about all of my games at least once.

The shorter list would be the games that I haven't completed in my case.

Finished? about the same number as you.. 200 or so.. maybe more. I sometimes buy games and end up not playing them at all or just playing them for a bit then uninstalling them. Sometimes, I don't even wait for a review lol. Of course sometimes that makes me get "duds" like "Dirt: Origin of the Species" but more often than not I find a game I actually really enjoy.

First game I ever beaten was Legend of Kage for the NES. Game with the best ending I beat was Final Fantasy 2 for the SNES. Worst ending is a tie between Rampage (all it showed was a black screen with congratulations on it) and Rainbow Six Vegas (all it showed was a to be continued.) I find that in most games the climax of the game is way before the last boss and the endings are always lacking.

One of my first NES games that I beat was Contra.. I even played it so much I managed to beat it without the "up up down down left right left right START" cheat ;)

For the SNES, it was F-Zero. Followed by you named it FF2 (FF4 in ***)

I don't think I beat any of my old Apple IIc games.. although I got really close to beating Conan.

As for modern (ala 386 SX) games.. my first was beaten was Blue Shift (a cop game, similar to Police Quest)

Although I'd really like to participate in this thread, I've been PC Gamer since early 90's and have finished few hundred games (OK I gotta admit I have completed few older games recently by cheating/with walkthroughs) so I'm not gonna list them here.

as a casual gamer who just recently has been able to find a little more time for gaming, i have a hard time finishing games. i have a bunch that i plan on finishing but it's hard to stay focused when i can often only fit in 45-60 minutes of gaming at a time. i have finished:

baldur's gate

FF VII

KotOR

half-life

diablo 1 & 2

IWD 1 & 2

mafia

NWN

my problem is i keep finding games at a low price and can't resist picking them up so now i have a long "to-do" list (45+ games not including all the expansions & mods...i guess that isn't much of a problem). just picked up half-life 2, but will wait to install until after i have finished baldur's gate 2.

I used to be like that, but now if I start a game, I finish it. I have dozens to play, but it's one or two at a time and play them to completion.

eh....hmm...completed games you say...my list includes no games what so ever. I've almost completed games but usually i either get distracted by multiplayer (or the skirmishes vs AI in rts games) or i get a new game and play that....pathetic i know :(

Heh... great subject. I, too, feel as though I finish fewer and fewer games. There used to be a time when I would plow through any enjoyable game like a man possesed until I beat it, hell or high water. Now, though, I find myself feeling satisfied or done with a lot of titles before finishing them, or getting close. Maybe it's a lifestyle issue. I rarely have time anymore. Who knows.

A few games over the last few years that I've enjoyed, but NOT finished, include:

- Morrowind (loved it, but felt as though I could spend a year or more chugging through it without charging t the end)

- Thief: Deadly Shadows (loved it, and appreciated the richness and depth [and longevity], but was hijacked by career stuff in real life and ran out of time)

- Serious Sam (enjoyed it, but ran out of steam; bought sexier FPS)

- Far Cry (bought to replace Serious Sam, loved it, but just couldn't plug all the way through it)

Game I've recently COMPLETED include:

- The Temple of Elemental Evil (like the Baulder's Gate series, which I've also completed, the old-school D&D games are hard not to beat, no matter how difficult or time-consuming. You just need to finish them!)

- Space Rangers 2 (fun, addictive, and ultimately, not too hard to get through)

- SWKOTOR (like its D&D predecessors, hard not to finish)

- SW: Republic Commando (I have trouble finishing FPSs, but this one is good and short)

If I'm brutally honest, I haven't completed as many games as I'd like (about a third of my collection). One of the reasons for that is the fact that I've had a few HD crashes over the years and I hadn't backed up any save games. I didn't feel like going all the way through those games again at the time - especially those I'd nearly completed. Here's the list of games I remember completely finishing...

Call of Duty 1 & 2, CoD: United Offensive, Condemned: Criminal Origins, Contract J.A.C.K., Daikatana, Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Invisible War, Doom 1/2/3, Dungeon Siege, DS: Legends Of Aranna, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (main quest), Eye Of The Beholder 1/2/3, FEAR, Far Cry, Gunman Chronicles, Half Life + Opposing Force + Blue Shift, Half Life 2, HL2: Episode 1, Halo: Combat Evolved (PC), Heretic 1 & 2, Hexen 1 & 2, Hexen: Deathkings Of The Dark Citadel, Star Wars: Dark Forces, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 + Mysteries Of The Sith, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Lands Of Lore: Throne Of Chaos, Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter, Max Payne, MoH: Allied Assault + Spearhead, Neverwinter Nights + Shadows Of Undrentide + Hordes Of Underdark, No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, Quake + Scourge Of Armagon + Dissolution Of Eternity, Quake 2 + Ground Zero, Quake 4, Red Faction, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Rune, SiN: Episodes: Emergence, Soldier Of Fortune 1 & 2, Star Trek Elite Force 1 & 2, Star Wars Republic Commando, Thief 1 & 2, Unreal + Return To Na Pali, Unreal 2, Wolfenstein 3D.

When it comes to RTS games I rarely play through the SP campaign and usually end up playing skirmishes, so I didn't count any of those although I've spent many hours with Age Of Empires 1/2/3, Age Of Mythology, Cossacks: European Wars, Rise Of Nations, Galactic Battlegrounds and others. The same goes for the UT series. I've started and nearly completed many other games, but due to lost save games never went back to try them again. I'll have to rectify that.

The only games I've intentionally not finished were...

Codename Outbreak - couldn't stand the bugs any longer
Neverwinter Nights 2 - couldn't stand the forced linearity any longer (I was close to the end as well lol)
Sniper Elite - could never get it to run without crashing after 5 minutes due to a sound bug
Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall - after spending at least a hundred hours playing it, I'd hardly got anywhere in the main quest, saw no end in sight and uninstalled
Oni- really got tired of the crap checkpoint save system
Project IGI - got tired of not being able to save at all until mission completion
Serious Sam - got bored
Diablo - got bored

I used to beat evey game I got (some RTS' would require a few cheats, so "go through" every game). Recently, I have a lot I haven't gotten through. I start them and either I get stuck or just have no desire to finish. The most recent handful I've finished are (theres a lot inbetween these I haven't finished, plus MMORPG's can't be "beat"):

Half-life 2

FEAR

Warcraft III and Frozen throne (no cheats!)

Chronicles of Riddick
