PC gaming is alive and kicking and I disagree with every one of your points but honestly I don't feel like getting into this debate as its pointless and done 20 times a day it seems in the System Wars forum.
I kinda miss these topics :(... In the good old days we had a topic about this like every 4-5 days... Now we only get one every 7-14 days...
Anyway PC gaming is not dead. PC gaming is not dying.
Without the PC there would be no console games.
All the real game features happen on the PC.
You cant mod Console games but you can mod PC games.
PC version of the game look better and play better if it was made for PC in mind (im not talking about the **** that get from consoles to PC)
PC gamers also win over console gamers 99.99% of the time and yes Microsoft did try it out but scraped the idea because it would not be fun of the console gamers.
PC sell market is larger then 2 of the consoles combined (cant remember what consoles) and that is without digital sales...
The cake is a lie?
PC gaming is still strong but there are a LOT of reasons why a game developer would choose developing for a console compared to the PC.
An INSANE amount of piracy on nearly all games (Xbox has some piracy but its absolutely dwarfed by PC's which are ALL pirate ready out of the box)
You need to make it work on a huge amount of different hardware configurations (on consoles its guaranteed to work as they are all the same)
Most PC gamers complain when they are charged anything near what console gamers pay for their game
Its MUCH easier to sell DLC on consoles thus dev's can get more money from their investments
Half-Life is one the Xbox 360! Also as Portal 2is on the PS3 we can assume HL:EP.3 will also be on there.First of all, acording to me, FPS-games work better on PC, second of all, when there is MMORPG, there is PC. And a good computer can outmatch a X-Box 360. Moddingworks better on the PC, Steam is popular, many great games are PC-exlusive, Half-Life series etc.

To put it simply...
Nooooooooooo it's far from dying :P
It's on its way to a higher plane of existence. I raid hours off PC games and It's far from dying off in my world :P
;)
1 Better on consoles Most PC games in this day and age are on xbox 360 and ps3 as well and are much better played on them. Games such as Gears of war Call of duty The orange box Dragon age origins fallout 3 etc. Sure you can get some thrills from being up close to a pc but still controls and online is much better on consoles.
2 Exclusives are lacking Lately there has been a lack of good exclusive pc games. The sims 3 was a big step down from the sims 2 with better graphics being the ONLY improvement and starcraft 2 is good but not great. There are far better RTS out there like Pikmin 1 & 2 and the original starcraft.
3 Price Yeah you saw this coming. Its horribly expensive to play games on your computer looking about 1500-3000 for a truly great gaming computer. I would rather pay $200 on an xbox that can play the same games for a MUCH cheaper price.
4 Specs Want to play Dragon age origins on your xbox 360? Buy the game! Want to play Dragon age origins on your PC! Buy the game! Take it home and find out you dont have high enough specs to play it. Dissapointment ensues. What do you think? Do you think these are good points or is PC gaming alive and kicking? No trolling/flaming please.PikmyPikmin
1. All better on PC. Gears had DX10 support, looked better and played better. Call of Duty started on the PC and was great with it's online community and mod support I was told. When Modern Warfare came around that's when things got nasty. Orange Box? PC. Mods, custom servers, custom maps, ect. It's not even a challenge. Dragon Age? Mods, and far better controls. Every good review websites even said the PC experience was by far the best way to enjoy Dragon Age. Fallout 3? FPS so better controls on PC, and mods. Online on PC is better than online for consoles. PC has dedicated servers.
2. Those are all subjective. I find a majority of console games, especially Wii and 360 games, to be quite bad. See how that works? And haven't you read? Since the 360 launch the PC has had more exclusives than any other system. You haven't looked well enough :P
3. Lets see. 700-800 bucks for a good gaming PC. Throw in another 100-200 for the monitor. A console can range from 200 to 400, then the TV costs about 300-500 for a reasonable one. Or you could chose the one that'll show flaws in the picture more and get a monitor for half the price. Oh, if you wanna play online for the 360 you need to pay. Not to mention the riduculous price for DLC that Microsoft charges. PS3 and Wii are free, and have built in wireless :P PC has mods, which can range from crap to completely game changing, and mostly free DLC. Not to mention all the good sales. BC2 for 20 bucks as a DD when it's barely been out for a month? 300 bucks worth of games, many many games, off steam for only 50 bucks? Brand new games half off? Or would you rather get the used games at Gamestop ONLY 5-10 bucks off "new" prices...and scratched up.
4. This is a deciding factor for the user. Do you want 720p games, if it can even manage that, that run with little to no AA, and lower quality overall at 30FPS (and a fee to pay online to boot, depending on what you use,) versus a machine that could run it at 1080p, max detail, some AA, at 30FPS+ at all times? You could save money various ways, such as if you don't even have a 1080p display you wouldn't need the power to run it at that. You could save some money and get a less powerful one. It's all up to you.
You have posted this with other platforms mentioned, so it belongs in System Wars, not here...this forum is for PC & Mac only.
You should take the time to read the rules in the Sticky Threads before posting.:)
I own most consoles, streching from the atari 2600 to the ps3. The only console i don't own is the 360, so i will be as objective as i can.
1. I spent 200-280(i don't remember well) euro's on my gaming PC, and i can play most games on high quality. The myth that you need 1000+ dollars to buy a "decent" PC is nothing more then a myth. :P
2. The amount of indie games and mod-made games on the PC is mind-boggling, and the list continuously gets bigger with each passing day(http://www.moddb.com/mods). Now lets add the Civ series, Diablo series, Starcraft series, Stalker series, Command&Conquer series, Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale series, Heroes series, Crysis series, Total War series, literally countless f2p and p2p mmo's out there, countless multiplayer FPS's, Mount&Blade series, Age of Empires series, SimCity series, countless adventure games, Warcraft series.. and the list can go on, there are so many exclusives made over the years, i think i'll just stop here.
Then add multiplats, which are in the hundreats.
And if you're talking about recent exclusives, then there is a spread sheet posted by a person somewere here, i suggest you find it, with dozens of them.
3. Games are not played better on consoles, because its a matter of subjectivity, entertainment is subjective. Some like PC gaming more, some like consoles more, its no reason to disscuss it.
Gaming PC is a huge market. And it will die either wen consoles will die also, or wen the end of the world comes. :P
This guys is wrong on all his points.
1. All the games you mentioned are better played on the PC. You can also use a controller or KB/M.
2. The PC has more exclusives then all consoles combined.
3. I built my PC for around 600-700 USd in 2007 and it can still max out most games at 1680x1050 res. Also a PC does a lot more than a game system so you get more bang out of your buck.
4. Same as point 3, I put dragon age origins in set it to my max res which is 1680x1050, set settings to max and raise AA to max 8x and it runs smoothly.
[QUOTE="Crimsader"]This is not system wars. How can you even compare console games to PC games?PikmyPikminThey are not all that different. I think console gaming is far better however for the reasons i listed. I hope nobody thinks im against pc gaming. I actually love pc games and i play the sims 2 all the time to this day but i just wanted to state what i think is wrong with pc gaming and i think it really could be on its deathbed. If not now then soon. Stop trolling. This is not System Wars. You can't convince any user here. let me clear this out for you. 1. Mouse + keyboard >>>> joypad, everybody agrees. Ok good. 2. Exclusive don't lack and are better than the consoles. Proof: Blizzard games. 3. The PC is more expensive because it has better graphics, moddable games, can run several processes simultaneously and isn't used only for gaming. The games however are much cheaper than on consoles. 4. Yes, buy DAO for XBox and find out it's a crappy port. Check out the requirements for the PC, buy the game and play normally.
