I have seen a huge amount of threads, with people asking if their specs for the future pc are good enough, or whats the best notebook they can buy under a certain budget, etc. I just decided to put up a guide which may help people to actually know what they want, and it may reduce unnecessary posts which often go unnoticed (thats true, sometimes these kind of posts get unnoticed)...

Anyways i just want to go through hardware for desktops and gaming notebooks for specific price range available in today's market...

Desktops:

Note - i have not gone into branded desktops in detail because personally i don't believe buying them is a good idea cause you can always assemble them and save quite a good amount of money; and this is only for GAMING pc's so not for entertainment pc's and stuff like that. And i just did not wanted to miss out on people looking for pre-assembled and after sales service savvy's.

High-End Gaming (Money is no Object ! - $4000+)

(I only include the recommendation in high end branded pc's, i may not have covered some other company's however the reasons justify themselve)

its www.newegg.com...

most games for 4 years.. hmmm interesting. i probably would not recommend going for the extreme performance pc cause what is best today is average in 2 years and piece of junk in 4 years.. so raher go for a medium one and the money u saved can be used for upgrades later on... especiallywith the video card. the most upgraded component in a pc during long run is normally RAM, VIDEO CARD, CPU, MOTHERBOARD... it is in ascending order so there you go.

Man I have a Asus motherboard P5N-E SLI

Also brough4 gigs of ram SLI ready for the mother board along with a G-FORCE GT8600 to start off with.

I figured i'll upgrade in 15 months for the video card by just adding anothe tg force and SLI it and add another gig of SLI ram

Do you think that good a route to go?

not really a good idea.. sli is only usefull if u play on higher resolutions. for ram, you already have enough so i dont think it should be a concern at the moment. as far as graphics card is concerned, rather than buying a mastr card for sli rather go for a newer card. they are pretty cheap these days.. 8800gt sells for around under 250at some places

Your Extreme Performance section needs the following changes: -Where's the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude that I expect in a money-is-no-object build? -Core 2 Extreme Yorkfields are nice, but how about we step it up to an Intel Skulltrail board with dual Intel Xeon X5400-series CPUs? You'd then have an OCTO-CORE system, and the Skulltrail has some nVIDIA MCPs just for SLI support, unlike most Intel chipset boards! (Unfortunately, I don't think the Skulltrail is out yet, and when it does release, it will be in limited numbers and with a price tag of over 600 US$...) -Forget hard drives for blazing speed-what about some nice Solid-State Disks? (Unless you're doing a lot of writing operations, in which case a hard drive still has the edge. That, and the price-to-storage ratio is far worse on SSDs. Then again, money is no object here...) Also, you need a system in between the 1000 US$ mid-range and the 1750 US$ high-end builds. Mine cost 1450 US$, which is near the middle of the price differential. (I expect to add another 100 US$ to that price in the form of CPU and northbridge HSFs, as well as extra case fans, though.)

as i said above i have not added some company's cause basically not even 5% of the people who are reding this is going to buy it. however i appreciate your comments and i will surely add reccomendation in my next update, which is gonna be pretty soon cuz im actually working on the list of laptops

and about the solid state drives, yes they are a good option however we are looking at a beast machine here which is amazingly fast, has tons of storage, and will handle any piece of code thrown at it with ease. solid state disks are impressive indeed, however they are not available in more than 128gb storage... that is the only reason i missed it cause you definitely cannot compromise on storage if you are building a hell of a pc...

Silly5

dell xps 720 is a good option... the system does have enough power to play games at decent setings and resolutions. however you can get a decent high-end performance machine if you go for assembled one.

could you build a good AMD Phenom/ATI HD3800 pc?acidic_dude

the medium end pc in the assembled (custom build section which is mentioned above has a amd phenom processor. if u want ati 3870 or 3850, all you need to do id replace the 8800gt with the ati card.

the reason why i actually went for the nvidia 8800gt was cause even though i know amd and ati are a vey good match, however 3870 is not avialable yet on newegg.com and 3850 doesnt come close on terms of performance with the 8800gt. so 8800gt is the best option imo.

however wen 3870 is available the performance may be similar

I know this must have taken you some time to write but seriously some of your advices is a serious joke. You go with an E6550 with 8600GTS?No you can just bump the processor down and get the HD3850 for FAR better overall gaming performance in the same amount of money.

And then you recommend the 256MB 8800GT with a phenom and 4GB RAM which is again a joke to me.The 256MB GT does not even have better price\performance than the 512 IMO but regardless only a fool would buy a 1K PC with 256MB VRAM.

And then you again make a mistake by recomending a single GTX instead of SLI 8800 GT or new GTS.

Please dont be offended i appreciate the time you took for this but still the guide is very misleading. You seem to skimp on the GPU in a gaming PC.

Where's the website where you've found the CPU's from because i only know to go to tigerdirect

I'm trying to get this one and I need to know if this will handle most games at least 4 years

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Processor HH80557PJ0804MGS - 3.0GHz, 4MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB, Conroe, Dual-Core, OEM, Socket 775, Processor The Price for this is $279.00

miraail
Get the Q6600 for the same price. It has a far bigger chance of lasting 4 years.

I will have to agree with Thinker here, some of the specs in thoses custom rigs are completely off and somewhat unbalanced (8800GTX? Serious? 8800GT SLI, HD3870 or even G92 GTS would sound better, and they would most likely shave a lot of money off)

I say you should also have rigs of two kinds, one that uses AMD CPU and MB and one that uses Intel (if people want it)

Hope you will improve on it, it's rough now, but with some editing, it should probably be a good guide...

I also agree with Thinker. 8800GTX is waste of money these days since new 8800GTS 512MB can provide same performance (some times outperformes GTX) for a lower price.

Well guys i appreciate your comments and i know im not a black belt in computer hardware however i really wanted to actually contribute to people out there who keep on asking again and again about what to buy.. so i basically tried to make a hadware guide and apart from that i will definitel look into it that i update the systems with the 8800gt 512mb (tbh i actually missed that cuz it is not yet available in aus so i actually used the gtx instead. and about the processors, guys, im a amd fan and really intel - i do not know a LOT about the L1 and L2 cache's and detailed stuff like that. however thatks guys for the coments.

i'm gonna add the laptop guide and i'll do the suitable updates to the thread with that as well

How are rigs from 2000$ to 4000$ mid range?? rofldomke13

well if yu actually compare the components of an assemblen pc and the same components - in a branded one are available between that range (2000-4000)

that is the reason it was added into mid range. Cause the point was atually performance, not price in the branded pc's.

however i'll try to add aother medium range and make the current as meium-high or someting like that. thanks anyways
