PC has been suffering in the FPS department lately?

Im speaking purely of MP FPS games, it seems that there is nothing to look forward too for PC. BC2 was alright but not as good as previous BF games and it was on consoles as well. I also tried Arma 2 but the MP didnt really stand out for me and was far to sim for me to enjoy. While 360 has its Halo Reach, PS3 has its Killzone 3 and even Wii has its Goldeneye; im just suprised there are no good FPS games coming out on the king that started it all. I have fond memories of games like Bf 1942 and some others.

I'm still waiting on the next Battlefield 1942/Unreal Tournament 2004. Sadly the competitive multiplayer fps market hasn't come up with anything decent since Team Fortress 2.

I'm looking forward to Brink, it should be fairly good and a bit different than the BF/CoD/MoH stuff

for MP FPS the PC has TF2. they keep coming out with updates it's great. the best pc fps have long legs and strong communities. this is why it's hard to dethrone them.

The internet in my area just SUCKS. No matter who I get it fom my online connection speed just sucks. So I pretty much don't play the WAN games anymore. Sometimes Joint Ops because I actually get an even reaction time when I play that game on WAN.

You're quite wrong in the respect that there is nothing to look forward to, and at any rate, FPS has been explored pretty thoroughly. I would like to think that if Id aren't dead, then FPS isn't dead - i.e. Rage.

Operation Arrowhead is an excellent, excellent game. Very fun and addictive. Anyway Red Orchestra 2 and Natural Selection 2 should come out soon. And if you are into console shooters like Halo or Killzone just get Black Ops and have fun.

Imo PC is doing just fine, since we have our diverse library of shooters while console gamers get more of the same.

Nope. In fact the FPS genre is the only one that prospers nowadays on the PC.

I would have somewhat agree if you were talking about single player but as MP goes its quite good TF2 is updated all the time and is with CS the most popular MP fps's with 30-40k users at any time ( CS hits 100K ) The f2p Quake live is doing great BF3 is coming Natural selection is coming as a stand alone game A new Red Orchestra and god knows what Valve has on their sleeve

No.. far from it.

Its just that FPS's here, regardless of age, are being kept alive by their community. Extending the life of a game indefinitely. You can find dozens of multiplayer FPS's to play, with hundreats of players online at any given moment. Mods also make up for any singleplayer.

For example, there are countless great singleplayer mods for most FPS games.

no it doesn't. We are being served with console ports or multiplatforms (=console hardware limited). Not that they would always suck, but still. I just hope Dice delivers with BF3.

There are just no big ticket fps games coming out for the pc compared to Halo or Killzone on the consoles. The consoles are a lot more accessable to the majority of people that its easier for companies to market their games towards consoles and can expect big returns. Also MS and Sony have huge stakes in console gaming and really push for these games to do well. If pc gaming wasn't so witheld to a smaller group of people, then bigger games would be headed to pc instead of consoles

I beleive PC does have a sizable amount of FPS fans, I recall that the PC version of BC2 outsold the other versions, it shows that we want certain things in our games for us to purchase them, it just saddens me we arent getting any exclusives that would really utilize our hardware and the advantages of being on PC; mods etc.

Because we're harder to please. We don't buy every crap game that's thrown our way just because it has shiny graphics or a really cool intro video or commercial.

But I'm most likely talking out of my ass.

Arcadish shooters have been in a slump for quite a while. Developers are starting to realize we don't want 50 halo/call of duty clones a year so we see less of them. Valve has said they are making 3 huge announcements in the next year which could mean another competitive shooter so keep an eye on them. Natural Selection 2 is in Alpha at the moment and seems good. Don't know when it will be out but I can tell you from what I have tested it has a lot of potential.

I said I played that game before, but it just felt more like a sim than a competitve MP focused shooter, dont get me wrong its a good game but nto exactly what im looking for.

I think there's TOO MANY multiplayer FPS's on PC nowadays... Even in the free(or freeware) side of things there's games like Nexuis, Alien Arena, Open Arena, Tremulous (a pretty original game right here, aliens vs humans and both races play totally differently), Warsow (Beautiful cel-shaded fps with cool moves/maneuvers), Cube, Urban Terror etc... Then there's games like Killing Floor (tactical 4-player coop zombie killing game, Counter Strike-style weapons shop system with upgrading and leveling up your character & customizing your skills like sniping etc.), and the countless Total Conversion Mods for games like Half-Life 2 that pop up all the time.
