Hi,

I'm in the market for a new gaming headset. The only issue I have is that my audio and microphone jacks are a little wonky. Do USB headsets need to be plugged in to these jacks or does all the input and output go via the USB slot?

Thanks!

USB headsets do not need anything other than the USB port, and I recommend the Logitech G930, which I own. Amazing headset, if you can't afford that you can get the non-wireless cheaper version.

I am not a huge audio kind of person, but I did get a nice pair for a nice price. These are nice a crisp sound with good bass. I really love them for the price I paid. I bought these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826105209&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-NA-_-NA

I bought the Logitech G330s last year to use both for gaming and online classes in grad school. They have the benefit of producing good voice audio (I very rarely use my headsets to send both game audio and voice comms to) and feeling comfortable for long periods of wear. I find a lot of high-end over the ear cups to be very uncomfortable after about an hour's worth of wear.

Sound may not be as great if you are planning on sending game audio to them, but for voice, they have hit the sweet spot for me. I also like that they have both the standard 1.8mm jacks for line-in and headphones; they both go into a USB connector that can then be used to just plug in via USB, but you have the option of using either USB or the audio jacks.

Go to the A/V forum and visit the Headphone FAQ sticky. There are many suggestions there. You should stay away from headsets in general unless you absolutely need an attached mic.

this guy is right. but that doesnt mean some headsets wont be good. just generally headphones will be better. this is a good site about headsets head-fi.org and if you search there you will find tons of info. there is also a headset guide if you decide you really want one by mad lust envy i think

At the same time A/V forum can get you reeled into buying a $200 dollar headphone and maybe even a $100 amp, just saying. Okay Im kidding but is possible.

For all we know the TC could be happy with some meh $30 headset or some logitech headset, after all is not music, and ignorance is bliss sometimes.
