PC House keeping

My computer is like really starting to be annoying ... it just isnt the same takes forever to boot up.

I want to do some house keeping.. without having to format because I dont have the OS Cd and key and I just dont want to go through all that trouble so i need help,tips whatever

Go through Add/Remove Programs and get rid of anything you don't want or need. Run Disk Cleanup and get rid of the stuff it comes up with along with anything extra. Go through your hard drive and try to find every temporary or stray file you have downloaded or backed up that you don't need and delete those. Defragment your hard drive. Also run a complete virus scan and malware scan with at least Ad-Aware and Spybot to make sure it's clean in that respect.

Also make sure that you have no services running in the backgroud that either should not be running or you don't need running. I can't tell you how much it always pains me at school when I see someone's system tray and it has like 20 or 30 icons in it. On Windows XP I only have 26 processes running at startup.
