Try to clear up your processes by clean booting: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

Defrag your hard-drive (do this last because it will take a while)

run CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ (keep in mind this will take all your cookies and Temporary internet files so make sure you know your passwords for your logins)

Running an adware scan and virus scan will help also.

It sounds like some of your background processes are taking in from the internet. Try turnning off all non essential processes through clean booting and see if that works.

Not sure what Defrag program you use but using just the Microsoft one is kind of crappy. I use Perfect Disk 8...and it defrags both my hard drive and my metafile (page file). It does a much much better job. I also recommend doing this once a month...go in..turn off your page file....run the defrag program....restart your computer and turn it back on. It basically will give you a fresh, non defrag portion of your hard drive for your new page file.

Good Luck@!!

Well, if all fails format your drive.

But, yes, take out all the background processes. Defrag and clean up. Remove programs you dont need, delete all your cookies, and temporary internet files, scan for adware and viruses. I reccomend AVG. if all fails, as i said, format your drive.

Go into "Run" and type "msconfig" tell us what is in "startup" and "services" (make sure to click "hide microsoft services) google it and try to see if you don't really need the item starting up. I would backup to an external HDD or DVDs just in case the HDD is about to die. The GPU or CPU could be overheating as well :? Is the inside of the PC really dusty?

before i try those i have been watching the performance on task manager and when music is lagging( the music has been the most noticable lag) the cpu usage goes from 1-3% up to 25%ish and that happens exactly every 60 secs:?
