I have been looking around the modern grahics cards and components you can buy because I am planning on restoring an old pc to it former glory and I realised how much computers have come along in such a short time from when we bought that pc. But it made me think, will there ever be an end to new components and upgrades, e.g. will computers ever peak at a point where they can no longer get any more edvanced? I know I heard of somthing to do with DVD/CD drives where we have actually created one of the fastest drives ever and cannot increase it in speed anymore otherwise we get a problem where the disk warps and breaks the drive. Just thought I would post and see what people think.

:D i don't think there will be an end soon...every time humans faces a limitation they break it by using new technology or new matrials for example i heard a couple months ago that a computer company (i think IBM) used a new matrial which can be 10mn and it can transfer Electrecity much better than the silicon,in the next 10 years it should replace the silicon well i don't the name correctly i guess it was called Carbongraph or something like that if someone knows plz correct me...

That material is not in research for IBM they are curently researching in EUV material, but this will be used about when the comapny will have to go bellow 16nm. But the material you mention it is used in a univeristy I think and it is used for tranzistors.

No, I don't think the time will come when they can't be made better. We'll continue to improve them until they become self-aware and then they'll take over the planet and continue to improve themselves indefinitely after we're enslaved or extinct. ;)

I don't think it will ever stop, because we will always need more computing power.
