Hi, ive got a bit of a problem with my PC performance..

Im rigged with a Intel D 3.0Ghz, 2Gb ram, GF9600GT, 500HD - not the most powrfull PC, but no slowpoke either.

All of my games lag terribly. Oblivion for instance ~60fps in the first 10 minutes, then the fps drops to about 15fps, ive tried everything that came in my mind, but all stays the same. I started from cheching the drivers, to the tempratures. Swaped RAM, VGA,no change. Ran stress tests - with perfect results. Any ideas what could cause this? Old games perform like the new ones too. Carmageddon 2 even starts to lag after a while :@

How old is it? If its older it could be dust. If you just got it or made it then not dust. Check your temps just in case. Also defrag your HDD. Do all the normal stuff first then move into the harder stuff. Also google is very good with helping in these kind of things. And another thing make sure you AV and FW exclude the games so they dont slow them down.

I would indeed clean the PC out.

Afterwards get this temp programhttp://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/come back with your CPU temps @ idle (doing nothing), and then put some games on and alt+tab out of them still running check your temps.

What OS and how old is the PC too?

Ive checked the temps many times, CPU - 45C, GPU - 54C, MB 49C.. Ive defragmented my HDD, i even checked it for bad sectors.. Its not dust, the PC is just a bit more than a year old, except for the CPU, its prehistoric - 4 years :D Ive done all the normal stuff now.. I have just one more idea how i could solve this, a full format, but i dont want to lose all of my data :D Coulds a full format solve anything?

Have you noticed heavy HDD activity during slowdown period?

What's the size of swap file? What OS?

Check processes and memory usage via Task Manager

just to eliminate memory leakage.

Also scan your system for malware.

2GB of RAM seems low, try add more RAM?magicalclick
I can run Oblivion better than him with a Pentium 4 and 1GB RAM, I highly doubt it's the ram causing the problem. 2GB is fine for most games anyway.

Not with newer games. And absolutely not if you want to max games properly.

Hmm, ill check the HDD activity..Swap size is 2GB and OS is XP (sun) 2Gb is enough on my system, the main problem should be my CPU..

Usually throttling back ....getting good framerates at first and then slowing down is CPU/GPU and heat related...more often CPU as overheated GPUs will start to artifact and cause other graphical errors. Could be your CPU/MB is dying...or maybe your PSU is not pushing enough power out anymore....especially under peak loads...things get old and die ...happens. Let me know how much the re-install helped...

Well thats my idea too, that something IS dying.. The PSU and MB are just an year old, so i hope its not them.. Ill google to find ways to check these parts :D

The reinstall helped - Diablo 2 lags no more, but Carma2 - still o.O As far as i know, the intel D can perform max at 60C, my ASUS motherboard - on the case it says that it can perform at 100C :D Thx for the replies :D

I'm guessing that is your "idle" temperatures, download this: Prime95 click "just stress testing"run the "small FFT's" mode with CoreTemp open, let me know what Temps you get.

I don't think he's going to 'max games properly' especially newer games with a 9600GT and that Intel Pentium D processor. The RAM isn't a problem.

Thanks, this solved everything, toned down the CPu and NB voltages - runs like a charm now :P + it still shows its running 3.0 Ghz (sun)
