Hey,

I bought a new PC that I use for everything including gaming. At night, I have been turning it off by shutting it down in the start menu. Is there any advantage of shutting down vs. just making is sleep. I noticed when it sleeps, the fans and everything shut off. What do you guys do, leave it on all the time, make it sleep when not using, or do you shut it down?

-Thanks

I always turn my computer off. Windows use to have a problem coming out of sleep-mode, it was a random problem....don't know if MS ever fixed the problem or not.

I've been using sleep for years and have never had any problems. I got in the habit with one of my laptops and put it to sleep if I wasn't going to use it for more than half an hour, and when you do that multiple times in a day it's nice to jump immediately back into Windows and not have to wait for it to start up again. I'd imagine power use while asleep is minimal.

It's better turn it off by the Start menu, cuz that's how you get the updates and installing. ...I personally, after my PC turned off, I switched off on the power surge as well. and I do that daily, except for my laptop, all I do is close the lid it'll just go to sleep. unless when Im at work, I'd unplugged it as well. Im doing this just to save my electric bills.
