yea, please provide your full system spec, ambient temp, your cooling setup, etc...also grab a program called RealTemp 3.70 and give me your reading temp while FarCry is running, as well as Afterburner and do the same thing for your GFX temp while playing the game.

Started happening to me a while ago too. I used to play it flawlessly since launch then one day I started it up and the whole game locked up ran at like 1 fps and all the background textures disappeared and I could see through things then my system would lock up forcing a hard reset. It's not my hardware either as they run everything else really well with no problems like that.

Is any of your rig overclocked? I heard that was an issue with FC3, any overclokcs cause this.

This, overclocks mess with Far Cry 3 for some odd reason (both CPU and GPU). I'm not sure if its a problem for everyone, but running Crossfire on the game has me unbearable microstuttering as well as an erratic frame rate. I got more stable performance with a single 6950 at stock settings than I did with overclocked 6950 crossfire.

Again do me a favor and run RealTemp 3.70 as well as afterburner and give me your CPU and GPU temps while playing Farcry 3, all in all im 70% convinced that your system is overheating.

New GPUs can take up to 100c but from your system spec and how old they are, I can certainly tell it's matter of overheating issue. I really don't wanna sound rude or anything but your system is really old, if you wanna keep up with new games you need to look into building a brand new unit from scratch which won't cost much since parts are really cheap these days.

If you can't change your hardware then you need to either find a way to cool it better or reduce the amount of work it needs to do - reducing the amount of heat it creates. Dropping the graphics settings, even if just to get you through this problem area, should reduce the amount of strain on your graphics card, make it work less and hopefully produce less heat and avoiding it shutting the system down to protect itself. The game won't look as nice, but you can still play it. The other alternative is to cool your graphics card (and case) better. Get more air flowing through your case and specifically across your graphics card. Avoiding expensive solutions a cheap fix would be to install additional fans to your case - a larger / faster / additional intake fan at the front. Depending on the type of case you have you may be able to mount a fan that blows directly at the graphics card - but this will get the most benefit if it is blowing cold air onto the card, and not just re-circulating hot air back onto it. Finally given the age of the machine, has it ever been cleaned inside? It could be something as simple as the heatsink on the graphics card has become clogged up with dust over the years.

90 degrees on your gpu is quite hot. If I remember correctly a GT220 is a rebadged 9500GT which is a rebadged 8600GT, and back then they couldn't take the heat as well as modern cards.

Also the card itself is not very good. Instead of building a whole new system buy a 7750 or something squeeze the last bit out of it.

like others said it seems that gt220 is overheating . Imo save a bit money and order a 7750 from Amazon.Uk or a local shop ( though in my experience retail shops that sell pc parts in europe are rather expensive )

If you are using Nvidia, the drivers give you the option of using the Nvidia system monitor, which will give you the ability to see many things in real time, (you can even have it on top of the game, or on a separate screen while the game plays)

GPU usage, temps

RAM usage

CPU usage, Temps +tj max temps.

(and a whole hell of a lot more, but thost are the ones I mainly worry about)

All in All it doesnt' seem to be inaccurate, matches what other temp programs say when I tested it.

yes,but 448bit memory interface for 5 year old gpu is something, but how good is it when you are using it with phenom II x4 3ghz and 6-8 gigs of ram,is it able to play games on high, doesn't have to be HD resolution(1440x900 is good enough)?

I guess i'm the most qualified to answer your question since i have a 275 (essentially a 260 with higher clocks) and a phenom II. I still play many games on high, but some on medium at 1080p. A GTX 260 should be fine for 1440x900 if you're looking at a used one for cheap.

My PC has a mild 200Mhz overclock plus unlocking of an extra core (from triplecore to quadcore). Far Cry 3 hasn't had any hiccups except when there is a patch in the pipeline. What that happens, I'll get repeated crashes to the desktop until the patch auto-installs.

it still offers a decent performance but what is your budget. I'd rather get something newer if its a used card since while a used card that is 1-2 years old is is perfectly fine a 4-5 year old card like the gtx260 that is used might not be a good idea If you are gonna look for used cards at least look for something like nvidia gtx460, or gtx 5xx series or AMD 57xx, 67xx or 68xx series

It's no faster than the GTX 260, the HD 6950 is miles better.
