I just recently bought a gaming pc and I have a question.

I know that there is racism everywhere, but it is in pc online gaming like console online gaming?

Console online gaming is full of kids and some adults that do not respect the gamer or the games, and right now I am tired of it. I want to play the Call of Duties, Borderlands , and other games without being called the N-word, or hear other people degrade white people and Hispanics.

I do have a little experience in WoW, and all the gamers care about in WoW is having a great immersive experience.

thanks.

Absoltelly the same. Thing is that in PC gaming it is possible to cheat and little kids prefer to kill both your and their fun of the game. Luckly the RTS games do not permit this, so I paly only them in multi. I've played several games on PSP Ad-Hoc and have to say it is much much nicer than PC multiplayer.

I'd prefer console multiplayer, if I wasn't such a PC geek :D

PC Gaming Community is much more mature, but it really just comes down to what game you're playing and what server you're playing on.

The good side about PC gaming when it comes to online gaming is things like punkbuster, dedicated servers, and voting. The last option is also included in some console games, but punkbuster and dedicated servers are where pc multi truly shines. Punkbuster (and other anti-cheating software) is usually a trustworthy program to prevent hackers and cheaters from exploiting the game. Dedicated servers also have that sort of restriction. For instance, in BF2 for PC, dedicated servers like clan servers and community servers usually either have at least one admin on it or an auto-kick program in place to prevent immature gameplay, profanity, or high ping. I find PC gaming to be a lot better due to lower lag, less hackers (depending on the game), and just an overall more immersive gaming experience. That's basically what I think, though. I'm sure there are other who haven't had as good of an experience as I did with PC gaming out there :P

All I want to do is have a good time, and calling people derogatory names is not having a good time to me. I spend 60 or 50 buck to enjoy myself, and stuff like this really takes the fun out of it for me.

It's not that I cant handle it, it's just that negativity is a germ and it can spread easily. I prefer to surround myself with positive thinkers.

?? No. The whole benefit of the PC gaming culture is that it *isn't* the same. Those kinds of people are out there, but with PC online gaming you have the power to just leave the server and join one where behavior like that is not allowed. If you find yourself constantly in servers where racism is prevalent, then you are in the wrong servers. There are LOTS of so-called "family friendly" clan servers where crap like that isn't allowed. Except don't bother with MW2, since they have eliminated dedicated servers and the benefits I have talked about in PC gaming no longer apply. It will be exactly as it is in console online gaming for MW2.

I agree 100%. I don't get shocked or offended by a 15 y/o kid screaming profanities, but I'm to old to be impressed by it by far. My general impression is that the PC community tend to be a little more mature than XBox live. However it very much depending on the game and the server you're playing on. With Xbox live you're not going to see any real diffrent from server to server (though you might see some diffrence from game to game). On the PC it'll often pay off to shop around on diffrent servers for the same game. A lot of servers have their own local ocmmunity, their own standards and rules. Some just discourage kids behavior by simply ignoring them, others might be ok with them others again might ban any resemblance of cussing. In short, look around until you find a server that suits your preferences.

YES! Thank you, that is completely accurate. You said it much better than I did :) Some of the best multiplayer experiences I have ever had have been on specific CS:S and COD4 servers where the mods were strict and didn't allow any kind of racism, cheating, etc. A good dedicated server with committed mods can make for a tight community and great experience.

Many PC game servers have rules about racist remarks, and even swearing. Most server admins are pretty good at kicking people who exhibit such behaviour, and persistent offenders are usually temporarily banned. That is not to say you will never encounter players who swear and use derogatory remarks, but on the whole the PC community is more mature and less inclined to tolerate that kind of behaviour. Some clan servers also have websites where you can report the behaviour of persistent offenders when an Admin is absent (and any decent server will keep logs that will help to back up your complaint).

Your mileage may vary according to which game and servers you play on, but when you find a server that meets your needs you can just add it to your favourites and play there again as many times as you like.

Hope this helps you. :)

I don't understand why consoles cant do the same thing. Just like this board, now if I were to post this on the PS3 or 360 boards, they would have a fit and tell me to deal with it instead of admitting that this problem is really a problem.

Thanks a lot guys, judging from the responces, i think I will go with PC gaming. I will keep my ps3 and 360 for exclusives.

You guys have been a ton of help.

Seems we're palying different games :D Well, especially for CS, I haven't found one server with friendly people.

Hm, by the way, I think few new games still support that Dedicated Server feature. I guess after an year or so, everything will be Online/Windows Live. So it won't differ much from the consoles multiplay. And still "Every flock has it's black sheeps" :)

Peace out!

are you serious? i know WC3 had a ton of ppl that would cheat because they used stuff that would take away the whole fog of war for them. and that makes a huge difference in RTS games. (basically like see through walls in fps)

I haven't played CS in quite a while...but I always was able to find some well moderated servers. I guess maybe at this point there aren't as many, I don't know. I can't even play anymore - I'm *terrible* compared to how I used to be. Also, I don't agree that "most" games are going towards matchmaking, but I think that is what IW is trying to push with MW2. God help us all if that happens. I may have to quit online gaming altogether. *cry*

I think a large part of the reason is logistics. If me and five buddies decide to chip in and set up our own server we are likely to know (or at least in time learn) who share our idea of what should be allowed on the server. We'd most likely know the mods either in real life or from playing together a lot. On Xbox live MS has to hire 'professional' people to mod their games. That means that they might have one mod to cover a hundred thousand people. On the PC, because mods are volunteers who each maintain their own personal server you get a lot more mods pr. player.

Oh yeah? Well I guess that's an inconvenience of the game, not the gamers

Bad about PC multiplayer (in my case) is that people that have unreal IPs, can't play LAN/Direct IP connect, which we prefer instead Online crap blabla...

I don't know what you mean about "unreal" IP's. If the game supports LAN, you just connect to your network and you can play with your friends.

The dedicated servers and admins are really what brings the PC online community above the Console games. Yeah sure you can file a complaint about the 15 year old on xbox live that screams racist crap or just generally mic spams to annoy everyone, but nothing ever gets done about it. Act like that on most PC games and you will soon find yourself without many servers to play in.

Um... 192.168.0.1 is unreal IP. Impossible to host, impossible to join... Sucks.

If you have trouble with figuring out your external IP address then you can either get Hamachi, which is VPN software...essentially creates a "virtual lan" that windows will treat as a local network. Works with pretty much any game, just create a LAN game and anyone connected to your Hamachi group will see it in their LAN game list.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_hamachi/ Hamachi DL

http://logmeinwiki.com/wiki/Hamachi:Gaming_over_Hamachi Guide, not as complicated as it may look.

Or you can just visit a myriad of sites on the net that will tell you what your IP is, if you don't really know much about networking.

Um... 192.168.0.1 is unreal IP. Impossible to host, impossible to join... Sucks.

Crimsader

That is your internal IP address, meaning that your router has assigned that address to you and uses it to send data once it gets into your network. But you do have a "real" external IP that the rest of the net uses to connect to you.

Listen, PC is the real thing. Best gamers play on PC. Thus more serious. This is not me just making up stuff. It's a fact. Why do you think so many people started playing online games, especially shooters like CoD, on consoles? Because they suck at PC gaming, they cannot handle the keybord and mouse. Same reason why kids preffer console. Not to go to far into this, because I know there will be replies to this saying 'f you' and 'you dont know where best gamers are at' and that kind of crap, PC is platform where you'll generally find smarter people, more mature I guess, who have better things to do than go around calling everyone names and words and all that.

Well ppl get consoles only for gaming so there is more kidds . Pc gamers usualy are older and more mature
