Hello,

One of my friend think his 285gtx is faulty cause it crashes sometimes. We decided to tried it on my PC but the way my hd rack was set the card couldn't fit properly (I've a 900 case). So we moved the rack to make place for the card. After everything was installed I boot the pc. All I could see was a black screen with no beep, then the pc rebooted itself after 5 seconds and stayed black forever. So we thought the card was faulty. I reinstalled my old card (8800GT) and the PC did the same thing.. So we tried to try another PSU; same thing. We tried with no DVD, no HD and no graphic card. SAME THING. The hell is going on?

So the pc boot: black screen, no beep, all fans are working. PC reboot itself after 5 seconds then it stay black with nothing going on forever.

Please help!

I really have no idea of what's going on but try resetting the CMOS settings. It's quick, harmless, and worth a try.

ok this is a serious pickle you are in! Can you even get to the BIOS at all? Does it seem that the moniter is getting power and signal? Does nothing at all come up?

He's not even getting a POST. I doubt he can access the BIOS.

The monitor keeps blinking like if the computer is off, If I unplug it I get a no signal. I can't access the bios at all. Everything is black.

Again, try resetting the CMOS. It worked for me when my computer was showing similar symtoms.

I'm honestly worried about your board right now. Do you have another moniter you can test too? I've seen the black screen happe from a board failing, the DIMM slots were dying from voltage issues. Have you run any overclocks on the system? Have you tried mixing the ram around a bite, putting one stick in and testing each slot at a time, then switching sticks? Just trying to narrow down the problem. You've already pulled out a lot of hardware and tested another PSU so taht can't be the problem.

yeah, it is getting some power all right but no signal is making it to the display.

Those little CMOS pins are easy to dislodge...did it myself once. Scared the heck out me when it wouldn't reboot.

I just yank the battery out myself. Worked just fine every time.

Doesn't that reset the internal clock? That would work too, but I prefer the CMOS method.

since you moved the rack, if resetting doesnt help, check for shorts. make sure you dont have a screw or something metalic that is grounding out your mobo. also, does your mobo have any post indicator lights or numbers? when I OC, i consistently have to reset bios to even get it to post which means I get the exact same symptoms as you.

It resets pretty much everything yeah, I find it easier myself. Plus if I really have to reset the CMOS then i don't mind, I like tinkering in the BIOS. Last time I had to do it was when I didn't raise the voltages enough to meet the demands of the overclock. WHole system would lock up before the hardware stage could get anywhere

Success! Something in there got messed up. Were you overclocking at all? I think it odd that a simple card switch would cause all this.

No, but the card is a 285GTX Matrix or something, I think it's overclocked by factory settings.
