85 is nothen to be ashamed of, i always thought this game was so original and awsome it reminds me of a really really ****** up version of operation flashpoint... for some reason
that the only negatives they mention, at least in the summary, are bad storytelling and side quests is pretty awesome
the vast majority of games, and especially first person shooters, have no idea how to tell a good story and voice acting is usually pretty bad, so, while not excusable, it's fairly easy to overlook
and the sidequests, well they're just that - they add peripheral depth to the game, that they aren't great isn't really a problem
and when you weigh it against the good, it seems like a pretty awesome review - i'm especially glad the AI stands out, and the setting is mentioned as being great, since they are the two factors that sold the game to me
i've never had too much faith in pc zone, and i take all reviews with a grain of salt anyway, but this is good news - with bioshock, crysis and UT3 all delayed to september, there's just nothing fps-y this side of june besides stalker, so i'm very glad it didn't fall apart

Have to agree.. tried the beta.. it is just worth a spin nothing special... although the effects they do in MP is GREAT for SP!.. duno what you call them but some random tornado thing picked me up lmao.. and the weather changing 24/7 adds life to the game.

Half Life 2 has good story telling and voice acting.
half life 2 has great voice acting, but it doesn't have a good story - it doesn't even have a story - and what storytelling there is isn't exactly presented in a great way
what half life2 has is a scenario, that scenario being: aliens invade earth, you try and stop them, it's a great scenario, and the world has an awesome feel to it - but it's hardly a story, even by game standards
but anyway, i didn't say there are no good story based fps games with good voice work, just that it's rare and so hardly a standard by which to judge the genre
I'm not trusting this review. The screens look like crap, almost all the previews are negative, and the game mechanics have been stripped from being intiuitive to just being another lame shooter, the multiplayer features sound weak, and most importantly it just doesn't look or sound that fun compared to the original design document.
I'm not holding my breath on this one, I expect the majority of gaming publications to give this a good score before I buy it. These games that take twenty years to make tend to come out as crap since they just get outdated and obselete before they reach release. Keeping my eye on STALKER but being wary.
@Artoso: Who are you to say that as fact? Many people adore Half-Life 2's gameplay because it's frantic and the scripted action is like being in a movie, and the AI is far from dumb now, Steam is a wonderful platform for patching.

To EyeNixon: Gamespot's previews are pretty positive, especially the more recent ones. Gamespot even comments about how the graphics don't seem as dated as you would expect from a long-in-development game.Â
To the rest of you: what's with the Half-Life 2 hate?  AI in FPSs is never very good. The only FPS I've ever played with remotely impressive AI is FEAR.

HL2 was a fantastic shooter. Why? Because it got top reviews. It sold incredible well. The industry regonizes it as a brilliant game. And the majority of the gamers loved it. End of discussion.
Ok, so YOU guys don't like it .. it is hardly an average shooter? .. how interesting .. how lovely of you to share this important and well argued information with the rest of us......please let me know when YOU think that the graphics in Crysis isn't all that great because I don't find it boring at all.

... Clearly guys, sure there were flaws in HL2 in the single player, but it has also been released as the biggest mod community out there, as well as the numerous multiplayer modes.  People have been playing HL2 way longer then FEAR, and Farcry due to its numerous mods, and multiplayers they have released. Not to mention Valve makes a great effort to release more updates then really any other games out there rivaling MMOs.. So when I see comments like this I basically see little children crying about a product that offers more bang for the buck then pretty much any other shooter out on the market today.. The Silver pack comes with 3 multiplayers, HL2, ALL HL one games.. No other shooter for that price gets near to the amount of content, nor the mod community it has, nor Valves commitment to constantly improving both the game it self and their revoluntionary system Steam.. Which gives away to play games on any computer with a broad band, instant buying of games, easilly connects 3rd party mods to the system, and easy interface.. Honestly no other system comes towards it in depth or quality yet people piss and moan about it like every company does this and theres is subpar.

Yeah. The enemy just stands there in Half Life 2. In Half Life 1 the soldiers would come round the corridoor and flank you.

Yeah . but this is not the way it works .. after 6 years of development we should all be happy that it is released at all, and as a decent game. Even if it will not be the perfect game that some dreamers hoped for, it still have some new well implemented ideas (or so they say in review and previews) and will propably influence future shooters. I think the game should have some credits for this and I for one is looking forward play it. I expect it to be one of this games with enough going for it to forgive it flaws and enjoy the rest.
I don't trust the review and the score. But the game is being released this month, i don't see the point in dissapointing someone before the actual launch of the game.

how big is too big? a lot of demos are a couple gigabytes big these days, if they can't give us an area-limited demo, or hell even just somekind of tutorial area with a couple gigabytes, then they're doing something wrong
the developers & publishers should be aware that stalker is a very hit or miss game, and people aren't sure which side of the fence to sit on - and that it would be in their best interest to put a demo out
myself, i've already ordered the game - i don't have partcularly high expectations, but there's nothing new to play and right now i'm playing doom and fallout, awesome though they are, the gaming drought is driving me nuts - even if the game turns out bad, i think it'll be worth owning to see what the devs were trying to do with it, since it is a very ambitious game
I don't trust reviews anymore, i usually end up loving the games between 6-8 and hating the games that get 9 :\ The higher rated games usually have no innovation and just gameplay i've done before. Like GEOW,Halo and Oblivion.
