Hi, I am looking to build some computer parts, and I will want to buy 2 4890's in crossfire. is there a big difference between the PCI express 2.0 slots in x16, x16, or x8,x8? I am getting a LGA 1156 mobo.

Don't waste your money crossfiring unless your gaming on resolutions higher than 1680x1050. There's a big difference between x16 and x8 so you would notice lower FPS than you should be getting. I am pretty sure the board your getting should have a x16 slot 2.0 so you should be fine.
If you're not gaming higher than 1680x1050 I'd recommend using your money to buy a single card at the price of the two 4890's and you'd be getting more FPS that way.

I doubt it.. I've seen a few articles about this issue, and even a 5870 CF configuration will run fine on two x8 slots. Considering that the OP will be running two cards of a much lower caliber, I seriously doubt that he'd see a performance loss above 5%.
--EDIT-- While I agree that buying a single card will probably be better in the long run, a have to disagree on the performance part you stated. Two 4890's in CF will out-muscle a single 5870 by a considerable amount, save by the games that don't support CF. So if the OP is basing his purchase decision purely on performance, the 4890's would win, but a 5870 would be a very good choice mainly for the DX11 and eyefinity support.

That can be very true since current graphic cards haven't even maxed out the x16 slot. I was confusing the x8 slot for the AGP slot lol. It's true at the current time he'd be getting more performance running two 4890s but it'd be smarter to only get one since it would be able to run everything at max. Then later just get a better card, new ones come out every month or two. Could buy two 4890s and two-three months later a single card could come out for cheaper than the duel 4890s and run at higher fps.

Ok well the reason i wanted 2 4890s in crossfire was because i could get both of them for around $400, which is a reasonable price, with good performance. what gfx card setup would you recommend for around $500?
oh and btw, when are Nvidia going to release their dx11 cards? is it only ATI that has them out now?
