Ok so iv been looking at prices and all i can afford is an i3 but then i need a new motherboard im still on the 775 socket that's going to cost me.

Do you already have a 775 board? If you do then that CPU would be a good choice, eather that or a used Core 2 Quad. But even the cheapest 1155 board and a dual core celeron/pentium would be a lot better deal, since you would have a good upgrade path.

Like others have said, I'd go with the dual core.
I use an E8400 dual core @ 3.00GHz and it still runs everything fine... It is a stronger dual core, but I guess it shows that dual cores aren't completely obsolete yet.

Gotta admit, so did I. KB's dont matter as much as a quality mice, myKB is wireless (never going to get wired KB again)and so is mice right now but it might change.
