ok we have an old (8 yrs)p3 dell, YES A DELL!, that got screwed up by me. since i loved that pc so much i want to make it up to it and give it a 1ghz p3 (it used to have a 650mhz p3) max the ram out to 768mb ( as much as it can support) and jack up the grafix card ram from 16mb to 32 or 64mb. i was looking on ebay for some old pcs that have 1ghz p3 and i was done looking thru a tiny selection and decided to look at p3 processors by themselves, most of them come like this whem they should be like this..An Early Intel Pentium III Katmai Engineering Sample which is still labelled as a Pentium II.we have everything it requires to run, but it looks too incomplete, is it just the heatsink, hte cover, and the surrounding momo htat it requires? thx

Hey, I'm a self-proclaimed Pentium III expert. :P I did most of my PC work during the P3 days.

That top picture is a socketed Pentium III, designed to go into the newer Socket 370 (mostly i815-based)Pentium III boards. They're called FC-PGA chips, and come in either the Coppermine or Tualatin versions of the Pentium III

The bottom picture is a slotted Pentium III, designed to go into older Slot 1(mostly 440BX-based) boards that were originally made for Pentium IIs of the same cartridge form-factor. The slotted P3s come in Katmai (external cache) or Coppermine (integrated cache) versions.

Of course, you can use a socketed Pentium III in an older Slot 1 motherboard, using a Slot 1 to Socket 370 converter (aka a Slocket).

Just make sure that the new P3 is of the same bus speed as the older P3 (I'm guessing 100MHz, since your PC is quite old). Many of the socketed P3s have133MHz bus speeds.
