Well I have been following POTBS(Pirates of the burning sea)for a while. One day a poster came on the potbs forums and said POTBS would fail due to the fact that disney announced POTCO(Pirates of the Caribbean Online). I personally think its a good thing. All of the 12 year olds will go to POTCO and the more seasoned gamers will go to POTBS.

From my view POTCO looks cartoony while POTBS looks more realistic. The cartoonish factor should draw evan more kids to POTCO since the game requirements are lower and most kids don't really have a good rig.

Potco requirements.

  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista
  • Pentium 3 800Mhz processor (P4 1Ghz recommended)
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 400 MB disk space available
  • 32MB graphics card (64 MB recommended)
  • DirectX 9 or better
  • Broadband internet connection

Potbs requirements are a bit higher I was unable to find the requirements again but I have seen them once and they were much higher. (1g ram pretty much higher everything.) Would be nice if some one some how found them and posted them on this thread.

I will be going to play potbs of coarse and I think it will be much more mature than potco. The only problem I can think of is since most of the players will be more mature there will not be enough kids to make up the population. Also pvp will be more challenging (Can be a good thing) due to lack of button pushers. I could be afraid that the servers will run vacant but I have yet to hear of a succesful disney mmorpg... So I still have hope.

Your thoughts on these games I would like to see.

I've been in the Pirates of the Burning Sea beta for awhile and it's a lot of fun, all of the sailing is based off of real-world strategies (such as sail furl, wind-sail correlation, certain constant currents). It plays a lot like Pirates! at sea and like most MMOs when sword fighting. It all runs perfectly on only a 3Ghz CPU, 1-2GB ram, and a 6 series GPU. I haven't seen anything on POTCO, but POTBS will keep you entertained for awhile, although it seems at the moment that the mid to endgame is kind of dull, but of course they are working on that.
