Ever notice how Infinity Engine games like Planescape Torment and Baldurs Gate 2 STILL look good even till this day? The 2D graphics with all the artwork still look really good and the graphics have none of those jagged edges that the older 3D games have. The 2D Infinity Engine games seem to age much better than 3D games. Now just imagine if Planescape Torment was able to be run at 1920 x 1200 without any of the environment or characters becoming smaller, that would look incredible even by today's standards. And BG2 would look incredible too with a closer up view (I am not a fan of how far away the camera is in BG2, although it's still a great game) and being run at 1920 x 1200.

Some developer should make an updated top-down 2D graphics engine for RPGs, and make the view more close up (similar to Planescape Torment's view) but with really detailed graphics and a really high resolution. That would be plain awesome!

Who agrees?

As far as artistic design goes, Torment and BGII >>>>>> Oblivion and Mass Effect.

BTW, have you tried Temple of Elemental Evil. It's one of the best looking 2D isometric RPGs.

If a dev made a 2D games, unintelligent consumers would instantly say no, it looks dumb and old. I hope when the final Diablo 2 patch comes out they release support for higher res.
