Hello all;

I just purchased a new system that will have Vista 64 bit, (2x) 8800 GTS 512MB (G92) SLI, a quad core at 3.2 Ghdz and 4Gb 800Mhz low latency Ram. I hope this is enough to run every RPG game released till now and on a near future, with all their graphical settings completely maxed. This is just to clear out that the hardware will not be considered when you all help me to choose my right RPG. Also, please beware the compatibilities with the OS.

So I want the right RPG game for me. The most important things I want on an RPG are the following:

1) The best graphical environment providing rich textures, great shadowing, great water details, the best facial detail and all to be known about graphics. It must also have a real deep line of sight when on outdoors to enable even more realism. If it has DirectX 10 enabled, then much better!

2) It must have a non linear story, and it must allow free roaming.

3) It must have at least an acceptable amount of bugs, none if possible.

4) It must have a complex character customization allowing many races, guilds, and alignments.

5) It must have a huge variety of monsters and items to wield.

6) It must be set on a Gothic 3 or Oblivion like theme and story. In other words, to control a character that would roam on medieval like castles, yield medieval weapons and cast alike magics.

7) It must be really NPC realistic, having realistic NPC's interactions, interesting dialogues, including sophisticated AI and not moronic AI.

These are the most important things I'm looking for in an RPG based game. I know that maybe it could be extremely difficult to find an RPG game that meets all these needs. If so, I would like to know the best approximation(s) for this. If even this is not possible, please provide an RPG meeting these needs that would be released this year or in 2009.

I really like to play RPG's, but need proper education on this.

I will really appreciate all insights on this topic.

Thanks you all.

You might be interested in The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. It's not brand new, or quite as pretty as Oblivion, but it still looks very good, and meets most of your requirements.

You sure want a lot. There's really no new RPG that gives all of that. And it sounds like you've already played Gothic 3 and Oblivion and most likely Morrowind too.

The Witcher is not what you ask for but it is the best PC RPG in the past few years.

Yeah, I agree. Though The Witcher does not exatly fit what you're looking for, its definitely an awesome game with great game play, great story, and awesome graphics. Check out the demo, see what you think, but I would highly recommend the game to any RPG fan.

Well... it seems that I have no choice but to wait till an RPG meeting my needs is finally released... it might even be years... :(

I must also clarify from my initial statement that I haven't played Gothic 3 still; when I said that I wanted an RPG with a theme like Gothic 3's, it doesn't mean that I have already played Gothic 3, I have played Gothic 1 and Gothic 2, so I already know that Gothic 3's theme is not different from its predecessor's theme. But, I do have played Oblivion already...

So I guess I would have to change my question to the following one :

Which of the following games best meet the needs expressed in my initial statement?

- The Witcher

- Gothic 3

- Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (in case of being single player too)

- NWN2

- Hard to be God

- Guild Wars 2

Since I don't know many RPG games, my list comes short.

Please help.

Thanks.

Age of Conan is an MMORPG, so you can take that off.

Gothic 3 fits you the best. It's a buggy game, but with the newest community patch, it's in a playable form.

I still recommend to check out The Witcher though. It is linear, but a better RPG than Gothic 3 and I don't even take Oblivion as RPG. You won't be playing many games, if that's all you accept.

I'd also recommend to check out old classics like Fallout, Baldur's Gate 2, Knights of the Old Republic and Planescape: Torment.

You have GW 2 listed. Have you played GW Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and the expansion, Eye of the North? Graphics (I think) are amazing. I'm always in awe when I play.. the scenery is so beautiful. You can't really customize your character like you can in an offline RPG. There is a main storyline, but you're able to go off in your own direction and explore and do side quests.

Aion is coming out this year, I think. Not much info, but it looks pretty good.

I'd like to play a game like that too, lol. But seriously, Gothic 3 is your best bet. Consider some of the other games people mentioned and look up Vampire: Bloodlines. It meets a lot of your requirements imo. Just patch it up with the official and unofficial patches. Try Kotor too for great dialog and story.

I also recomend The Witcher. it's not exactly linear. You have alot of free roaming at your disposal, also your actions are not nigh/day obvious and will affect the outcome as your progress through the game.

Neverwinter Nights 2 is a pretty good game with lots of dnd character customizations, however it's pretty linear. The expansion is also a nice touch.

Gothic 3 is awesome, however still quite buggy.

There are also new RPG's that will be released on 2008, like:

- Fallout 3

- Gothic 4

- Dragon Age

- Hard to be God

- Aion

Aion has REALLY impressive graphics but is only multiplayer.

I haven't ever played the fallout series, and so I don't know up to what extent does this series fit my needs.

Dragon Age seems that it's to be a kick ass RPG for its innovative features, but I haven't seen a video of it still. GameSpot doesn't have a video yet, so I can't tell how well will this game fit my needs.

I don't know a thing about Hard to be God...

What do you think?

Thanks.
