for gaming lcd, but for movies plasmaSaL_92i mostly agree . some lcds are very bad for gaming slow speeds
lcd, when i had my old tv fixed i asked the repair guy the same question and he said that plasmas have major problems and wont be around too long, apparently they can burn images into the screen if you leave them on long enough, lcds can do the same but take longer. either way you should turn it off if you're not using it, save energy :P
plasma have a far better response time than most all lcds.
While it's true you can burn in an image, after the first 100 hours or so you have to try really hard to achieve it.
LCDs are brighter, so if there's going to be lots of light(from windows, etc) in the room, you might want to stick with a newer 120hz lcd.
But plasmas will give you the best picture and response time(you see on screen, you hit button, you see result on screen)
And to the repair tech, your an idiot and shouldn't comment on things.

you and your repair person both obviously do not know anything so why would you post and confuse people with uninformed and misguided opinions?
I think it's mildly amusing how people pine over largely irrelevant issues. Plasmas had burn in, but you'd have to be pretty abusive to cause it these days, almost to the point where worrying about burn in on a plasma is about as silly as it would have been to worry about burn in on a tube television, of which most of us whome arent that young have used for quite some time leading up to this point.
I think Plasma is great because it is much less of a jump from CRT's, still using phosphors and overall providing a better picture.
Furthermore, i think the one advanage LCD has in brightness is largely an illusion, what i mean to say is those exagerated whites and pop you get at the store end up frying your eyes at home, especially if you try that in the dark, the reccomended backlight and brightness settings, particularily for gaming (because you dont blink quite as much and your eyes will become irritable faster) is much lower.
The one legitimate issue i personally still have with plasma is the possibility of uneven wear with 4:3 programs, considering older Tube TV's were usually 4:3 in size, this is an issue they never had to worry about in the first place, but as all plasmas are widescreen and people such as myself still wacth alot of SD content and play SD video games, it's an annoying anomoly that is similar to burn in, but technically not burn in. Of course it can easily be prevented from stretching or using grey bars, but i have distaste for either method, and am annoyed that i should even have to distort the picture or abrupt the flow of the image with grey side bars.
Anyway so there you have it, Plasmas dont have burn in, they last plenty long (longer then you'd ever need), and IR should be minimal. They provide the best picture and the most comforting image on the eyes (beleive me this can become very important wehn you game, there is nothing worse than the eye strain one feels on a really bright Sony LCD after playing an intense FPS for even an hours time).
