I heard that plasma tvs use a lot more electricity than the other types of HDTVs. How do they all compare?

"LED" is just a typical LCD with an LED backlight instead of a CCFL backlight. Nothing like a proper OLED or QLED display. LEDs are more efficient than CCFLs, but there's still the LCD matrix to consider. That's why power consumption isn't drastically different.

LED > LCD > Plasma.

Plasma doesn't consume as much as older models from years ago, but its still the highest of the 4. Don't know where DLP/projectors stand.

Newer plasmas don't use much more power than an LCD or LED. LEDs are the most energy efficient, and usually the thinnest as well. Plasmas have come a LONG way in almost all departments in the last few years. I think CNET named a Panasonic Plasma the best HDTV of 2010 if I'm not mistaken. VT25 series, maybe? They have an unbelievable picture, especially for 3d.

You will usually save some energy aswell if u have ur plasma calibrated properly, most uncalibrated screens have the settings and colors too high out of the box meaning you willuse more electricity.

Afta calibration the colors and brightness etc etc will usually be set to the correct levels for ur room meaning it uses less power.

Power consumption is always published in the manual in the "Specs" section, and usually published by the retailer. Crutchfield publishes it in their "Features & Specs" section for each individual model If you've got a few models in mind between LED and an LCD, you can compare them apples to apples there.

It might help if we knew why you wanted to know about power consumption in the first place, though. Your motivation can help us help you more effectively. :)

Also power consumption of plasmas is rated at the maximum (all white screen at highest settings). Plasmas will use more/less energy based on the content on the screen whereas LCD will use pretty much the same energy at all times. In dark scenes, plasma can actually use less power than LCD, but will use more in bright scenes. All that being said, you are probably talking $30/year at most so who cares?
