First off, I wasn't quite sure as where to put this topic, so sorry if this is the wrong forum..Mods feel free to move it to the correct one if here isn't right....

So I was wondering if there's a way I can get my 360 to play through my laptop instead of a television. Is this even possible..? I decided to lug a small 13 inch television to the hospital with me while I get my chemotherapy for the next week or so. I got to thinking about how much more convenient it would be to just have the audio/video coming through my laptop..So here I am.

What sort of port would my laptop need to allow me to do this? I suppose I would need some sort of audio/video cable that wasn't the one that came with my 360 too right? What kind would I need? My laptop has USB, Ethernet, expansion ports on it..all your basic ports I guess.

Anyway, I hope I've given you the info you need to help me out with this. If you guys need any questions answered in order to help me, just ask, and I'll do my best to give you what you need. Thanks a bunch!

As far as I know the only way to view a 360's output on your laptop is to buy a TV tuner - HD ones may support 720p input, but I have a feeling they're mainly for over-the-air signals. So you're probably limited to 480p, which would be pretty ugly.

Either way, it'll work, but it's kind of a crude solution.

Buy an Xbox 360 VGA cable, your laptop is bound to have a VGA slot, check!

Okay, so I found this http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=40681 on GameStop.com what do you guys think about it? Think it might work? Oh, and by the way, I don't have a T.V. tuner on my laptop..is that absolutely necessary to do what I want?

The VGA cable is for use with computer monitors or HDTVs if you run out of inputs...I don't think I've ever heard of a laptop that has a VGA input - they're always for output, for an external monitor or a projector for presentations.

A USB TV tuner with component inputs would be your best bet, although my guess is that few of them will offer anything but component or s-video.

I searched for a long time since I had the same idea (PS3 + laptop) and I can tell you it's probably not going to work. You can get a tuner that will convert the signal into something viewable on the laptop. That's easy. The problem is that the conversion process takes time so it'll introduce lag into your games. If you're a twitch gamer (and most console games are) then this is totally unacceptable. You "might" be able to get a high end tuner that "might" be fast enough but I'm guessing that there will always be a little lag.
