AMD 4000+
Radeon Sapphire X1950 PRO 512

They did a good job on this game because with almost everything on and maxed, I average from 20-30 fps. This is a conservative estimate because at times I dip between 15-20 and other times I'm greater then 40 fps. Once your frame rate dips below 25, you really start to feel the lag.

Now if I turn off "Shadows", it buys me about an additional 10 fps, give or take depending on the situation. Also turning off "Specular Map" and lowering the "Model Detail" to low, I gain a few more fps. None of the other settings seem to gain me any fps. So turning off those three things really helps keep the game a playable experience and I can live without them. I'm too busy running for my life to notice.

Now with other games like Bioshock, GRAW, GRAW2 and Vegas, on my computer, I could turn off some stuff but it didn't make a whole lot of difference.

I'm holding out on the new tech that just over the horizon before I upgrade.

i think they did a great job too.

ihave an old system :

P4 3.2 Ghz

Readon (ASUS) ax850xt platinum edition

1024mo

I turn all the texture to EXTRA, 1280-1024, sync ON, No AA, and No AF. ( i really dontmind about aa-af)

I get 50-60 fps when theres no action, and never less than 30 fps during the combats.

I'll get a complete new PC only in a couple of months, but i can still play COD4 pretty good as soon as it comes out :)
