So I did play all the original HL1 games back when they came out, HL1 through Blue Shift.I never finished HL2 because I got bored with it about a level after you first get the gravity gun. I didn't play EP1 at all. So what did I miss? Lol

I will probably go back and play EP1 now that I have it with The Orange Box. But loosely what is the story really about? So far this is what the whole game seems to be as far as I can tell - You keep trying to fight your way back and help the one chick's dad and the scientist dude who are trying to save the world from some bad guy that is filling it with weird monsters and stuff. Is that basically what the story is? LOL

if you want to play HL2 E2 so bad, then go play the first 2 HL2s. Thats my suggestions. But if you got bored, then why even bother.

just go back and play Ep1. Its short, and catches you up on the story if you didn't finish HL2, enough to know what's going on in Ep2.

Well I like EP2 so far, it's a lot better than the first one. I don't want to go play the first 1 because like I said it was boring to me. But may go play EP1. Anyway can someone just give me a real quick run down of the story?

That guy on the video screens at the beginning of HL2 is obviously the bad guy. Are you still trying to get/kill him and save all the good people of the world etc?

I wouldn't reccomend playing through ep1, heres basically what happens(from what I gathered):

*SPOILERS*

it starts at the end of hl2 and it shows the vortigaunts doing something and gmans all like "we'll see about that" then he leaves and you wake up and dog finds you, then you have to do something because the citadels gonna go boom, so you go in and do that, while you do that alex finds some message about the combine and a transmission from judith, then you see a hunter and the transmission ends, then you leave and the combine don't want you to take the message so they try and stop you and you fight your way out of city 17 and get on a train and as the train leaves the citadel goes boom and the train goes boom, end credits.

I think thats what happens anyway

and i'd reccommend playing through hl2 just because its something you have to do...but actually the first time I played it I got to ravenholm and stopped.

OK I will go back and play EP1 first. Someone just please tell me how HL2 ends. I played it up to the point where some guy throws you a gun from another building i thing. Then you ride some car on a rope up to this ledge, and somewhere in here you get the gravity gun, and this is where I got bored and never finished the game. There wasnt much plot in this game anyway, i mean you start at the train station, meet the doc and that chick, teleport somewhere and then are just running around trying to get back to the doc guy, right?

Half Life 2 was a little boring I agree. Some parts dragged too long but it's still a great game.

Episode 1 was fantastic though. So is episode 2.

I found the whole story written out on wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_2

.... "Gordon enters the Citadel through an underground passage. All of his weapons are destroyed by a "confiscation field", except for the gravity gun. The field instead strengthens the gravity gun, and using this Gordon wreaks havoc upon the Citadel.[27] Freeman enters a containment apparatus, which brings him face-to-face with Doctor Breen. Doctor Judith Mossman is with Breen, and he summons Eli and Alyx, who are being held in similar devices. During the confrontation, Breen remarks that Freeman's services are "open to the highest bidder." As Breen threatens the Vances, Judith finally turns against him. Breen manages to escape to a "Dark Energy Reactor" at the top of the Citadel with the intent of teleporting himself away from Earth. Gordon and Alyx pursue him, and Gordon destroys the reactor, both to depower the Citadel and to prevent Breen's escape. This triggers a massive explosion in which Alyx and Gordon are imperiled.[28] However, at the moment the reactor explodes, time stops. The G-Man emerges, commenting on Gordon's successful endeavors, before placing Gordon back into stasis, and leaving through a door of pure light. The game ends exactly as it began, in darkness. The story continues from this point in Half-Life 2: Episode One."

You have me perplexed Store24, I respect you all the same - but I'm curious - you got bored with Company of Heroes, Rome: Total War, Dawn of War and now it seems Half Life 2? Maybe *mainstream* PC Gaming isn't for you? I just get the feeling you might enjoy more casual games that you can pick up and put down quickly. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm just genuinely curious to why you buy these games if you're not enjoying them :P

To expand: Part of what I think makes Episode 2 so magical is the way the story (which has been progressed from the original HL2 through Episode 1 and now in Episode 2), and if you don't like the story, you're just forcing yourself to sit through a tech demo... But, hey if you're enjoying yourself - that's what matters - so ignore me if you are having fun regardless of the story :D

Half Life 2 and Episode 2 are the big meaty parts of the story. What you need to know about Episode 1 is shown to you in the opening of Episode 2. Half Life 2 has a ton of important story elements... especially at the end.

Ahh I played CoH every which way. The single player and all skirmish maps over and over and over, as both sides. I could not even guess how many hours I put in to that game. How is that getting bored with it? I think CoH is a very good game, I would give it an 8.5 but I think it does not even begin to touch WiC which I guess just really bothers you.

Other main streamgames I played all the way through/ countless hours inand did not get bored with are -

All GTA games
All Hit Man games
All FEAR games
Far Cry
many Splinter Cell games
Tiger Woods
Madden
GT Legends
GTR2
MAFIA (played it all the way through 4 times!!!)

I could keep going on and on but this is stupid. Just because I don't like a few games that apparently you like does not mean I am a more "casual" gammer. I just don't like boring board games like you and I have ALWAYS thought HL2 was way over rated? Have you played all the original HL games? I have and I played them when they came out. They were fantastic and I also though HL2 was a big let down from the originals!

Hmm. Quite a bit goes on in HL2. You have many questions coming up and some answered. So it sounds like you stopped where the game gets so much better. You missed a lot of good stuff. The end of Half Life 2 Gordon and Alyx are sitting uptop of the Citadel while it explodes. Gman comes out and places Gordon back in the time stasis. As for Alyx, with the development in Ep2 I can't go into that. She does survive because the Vort's pull her out to the bottom of the Citadel. Same with Gordon which annoys the Gman. Play Portal first before EP2. There is a few tie-ins.

How are you bored with HL2? I bet you're just scared of the zombies in Ravenholm. lol. Why the hell would you skip HL2 and Ep1 and go to Ep2!? That's like watching LOTR: RotK before watching the first two. (and without reading the books.)
