Like many, I enjoy older pc games but I have a widescreen monitor. Most if not all older games run in 4:3 instead of 16:10. Is there any way to add black bars to the screen so that the picture doesn't look stretched and distorted?

i know with at least newer nvidia cards, you should be able to set it to do that in the nvidia control thiny, assuming your monitors connected through DVI (which mines not  )

some games also have fan things for them to help, such as fallout and fallout 2 i belive have tools that will make it run in higher resolutions than its base.

I have an ATI card and it looks like it can do it but it put the black bars on the top and bottom rather than left and right. Is there any 3rd party programs that get the job done too?

I've had a widescreen monitor for a few years now and this website is like a gold mine for getting old games to look right :D

Must to my amazement some of my old games support widescreen. Before you start looking around for some odd ball program make sure the game actaully needs the help.

Check you monitor too. Some monitors have a 4:3 resolution setting. My LG monitor does and its flawless.

I came across this looking for another widescreen gaming site:

How can a widescreen monitor supports flawless 4:3 picture? it has to be stretched and that will make the game graphics bad.
