First off pardon me if this has been asked, but i can't find anything. I have a 19 inch westinghouse lcd monitor that supports 1400x900 resolution i believe. i don,t think it is hdcp compliant. If i hook up a playstaion 3 with hdmi to dvi cable, will it not work at all, give me a resolution of 480p, 720p, or what. I know there are aftermarket solutions if it won,t work but i want to go the cheapest route. thanks.
To my knowledge this should work, because I believe the PS3 and HDMI will only throw a conniption fit if you are trying use 1080p and a non HDCP compliant display. You should be okay with 720p.
i saw an official faq thread on playstaions website that said the hdcp protection is used by movie media as a protection and will downgrade the resolution on non hdcp monitors. this said nothing about games, which is all i really want anyway.
I'm actually using that exact setup right now. I have my ps3 on my 19" Samsung Syncmaster941BW monitor (native 1440x900) displaying in 720(p, i believe tho I'd have to go back and check that). I'm just using HDMI cable and a HDMI to DVI connector to my monitor and voila. Plus I plugged in my usb keyboard to type this post. Now, my only question is that it works great, but it's filling up the whole screen, and I was under the impression that I would have black bars top and bottom, so is my image being stretched? Either way, its not noticeable if it is, and the pictures great. I highly recommend it.
Do any of you think that a PS3 component cable (not composite) connected to a Component video coupler (female to female) whish then is connected to aComponent toVGA work. WIth non HDCP Monitor of course.
