Please help! I want to get a Mac

Now let me start off by saying I am not technically illeterate in anyway. I have been using computers since age 5, know several programming languages, built a pc, even use linux sufficiently. I go against all guidelines of what is though of as Mac user.

Problem is, I have seen all those cool looking Mac laptops, and I really want to get one. Macs are (generally) for less computer educated people, and I am not one of them. This goes against all rationality and commen sense, when for the price of a Mac laptop, I could build an awesome killer rig, or a laptop of way better hardware. But nontheless, I take some happiness in material objects, but still, I am confused.

What should I do guys? Can anyone convince me to back away or go ahead with it? Or am I just being stupid?

if u want a more secure working enviroment, with a double-length battery life yeah, go for a mac. worse case senario grab a copy of windows (or the RC1 win7) and dual boot if u feel the need to hold onto 2 OS at once.

a person won't NEED a mac, a person will instead fall in LOVE with a mac.

First of, what do you want from your computer? If it's just a "cool" accessory or a really expensive media-player you want, then go for Mac!

If you want to use it for Games or other useful things. Get a Super-Duper-Mega-PC. You get so much more muscle for your money.

If you're still unsure, just read your own post again. You'll notice that everything you say speaks for PC and against Mac.

Just remember your paying more for the name and look rather than what's inside of it.

mac's for those who havent tried 3rd party operating systems are eye candy nothing more they will do nothing for you other cannot. but if you have huge experience with various OS's (windows (assorted), linux (fedora, red hat, ubuntu) and unix) you will appreciate and find alot to like. but speaking personnally if you arent doing any visual/audio editing and arent trying to manage other mac's its a waste of time man.. a waste of time.

If you live within 1mile of a starbucks go fora Mac. Otherwise go for a PC.

what if theres more than 1 within a mile? go linux netbook?

Thanks for all the replies. No I wont use it gor games (maybe except playing some 5 year old obscure game, that will work on bootcamp i assume) or do any audio/video editing, im not cool enough for that. Basically I would get it for materialisms' sake. Bad reason I know :roll:
