I was being stupid and i took off the front of my computer. After the front was removed the system shut off. I imagined that i jsut accidently pressed the power button so i resart it and it loads up like normal but then it says something like operating system not found or something like that. Did i destroy my computer or what? It was a horrible computer and already arranged on getting a new computer but i need the filES.

Relax. If all you need is the files, wait until you get your new system and slave your old drive to the new one's optical drive. Change the permissions on the drive and transfer the files. :)

I dont know how removing the front would change anyhting, but you could go into the bios and make sure its booting off the right device, and check boot screen to see if the hard drive shows up.

First make sure that the bios sees the hard drive.

You might have a problem too if it's a sata drive and you unpluged from one channel and put it back in a different one.

If the bios sees the hard drive and its set to boot off the hard drive and it stll doesent work put the windows disk in and do the repair thing, if that doesent work i guess try installing windows over top itself without formating.

If you have to do it right now and cant wait for help, I guess you could just put the windows disk in and pray.

After you've tryed to fix it that wouldn't be a bad idea. It should be your last last resort.

Im a noobie myself but maybe he reset the bios or something while taking apart the computer, he moved the mobo or sumthin.

Maybe putting the first boot from his hard from bios if its not that would help I guess. As I see this when Im messing aroud with my bios.

Try to repair/reload Windows first. It should fix the problem. Keep us posted. :)

It said that there was already one version installed. But everytime i try 2 start my pc i can do setup or i can click resume. from there i click resume and it then goes to a black screen that has and_ blinking.Sometimes when i ahve the windows cd in it it says click a button to boot form cd. But when i dont have a cd in it just blinks froever. I really dont know what to do now ive tried everything i could think of.

BIOS: Basic Input Output System

The bios is how your computer knows what it is and what it has e.g 250gb SATA HDD plugged into slot one. If this has been messed up somehow then it could mean your computer dosn't know that you have got a hard drive for example. Look in your motherboard mannual for help on wiping the BIOS.

You can enter the BIOS on most MOBOs by pressing the Delete key, during the POST (Power On Self Test). It varies somewhat with off the shelf computers. Old Dells used the F2 key, rather than the Delete key. What kinda 'puter do you have? Try pressing the Delete key repeatedly, when you first turn your computer on. Often the Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock lights on your keyboard (top right of keyboard) will simultaneously flash, indicating you're entering the BIOS. BTW, the BIOS are located on a ROM chip on the mother board itself and are accessed prior to the internal drives. The BIOS interface is DOS like, just follow the on screen instructions. If you make a mistake you can always restore the BIOS to default settings. DON'T change the FSB, or voltages if you don't know what you're doing. Poke around a bit and get a feel for them, because you may need to use your BIOS again in the future. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding the list of internal HDD(s).
