hey everyone,

im currently running a p4 3.2g w/ 2g ram and a x1800. back in its day it was pretty badass, but now.... uhg :)

can someone please help me build something on newegg? i used to love ati, but im not against going w/ an nvidia card. the computer doesnt have to look pretty at all, in fact i dont want a pretty one.

the limit is around $1,500. i have a few hard drives, a monitor, keyboard and speakers.

i have an x-fi for sound right now, should i just take it out and put it in the new comp?

please help :) i've been out of the hardware loop for a few years now.

thank you.

is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017 better than http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115037? is it worth the extra 50?

if you want raw power, I would go with the E8400 Wolfdale. The Q6600 is great if your a big multitasker but not many programs today are written to take full advantage of multi core processors. Actually both are pretty good multitaskers and overclockers. But the E8400 has the advantage of being able to do all of that and be cheaper.

I dont feel like getting the links, too lazy right now: DFI Blood Iron mobo, E8400 if you can OC or are willing to learn, otherwise, the Q6600 is probably for you, for high-end GPU, get the HD3870 X2, or for lses get 8800 GT or GTS G92 or HD3870, Crucial Ballistix ram, I'll always recommend the Antec 900, great case, there are also other great cases like the Thermaltake Armor, etc..., corsair 620w or higher if you're going for a dual gpu setup, seasonic 700W? Higher? idk, for cpu cooler, the freezer 7 pro is excellent for the price or the Tuniq Tower 120 is one of the best air coolers around or the Thermalright SI-128. all can be found on newegg.
