I have a laptop and a desktop computer, and both of them say they have 504 mb of ram.

So my question is, do you think CSS will run okay on both of these computers? The required amount of ram is 256 mb, but the recommended is 512. So I'm just a tinyyy bit under the recommended amount.

Please let me know if this should be okay. Thanks.

if you have alot of processes running, get rid of the non essential ones when you want to play, like IM programs and such. even firefox, left idle, usually takes up a good 50-100MB of ram

Yeah, I'm only missing 8 mb off the recommended amount, so I was hoping someone would say this. This is good news, I've been wanting to get this game for a while..

Yeah, I'll probably delete firefox, aim, msn messenger, etc all together anyway because I never use them. I just have my simple little internet explorer. Hopefully this works out well!

Just put all of your settings on low, then go here:

http://www.gotfrag.com/css/forums/thread/283992/?cpage=2

And copy and paste either the AMD one or the Intel one into a text file. Save it as autoexec.cfg, then put it in C:/Program Files/Steam/Steamapps/username/counter strike source/cstrike/cfg. The "cfg" folder might not exist, so just create one. That'll make the game less of a stress on your compy. If you want to make the water not be black, change r_WaterDrawRefraction "0" to 1. To enable voice chat in game, change the following to 1:

voice_modenable "0"
voice_enable "0"
sv_voiceenable "0"

I don't know why he decided to disable voice chat with that configuration, but it's easy to change back. Like I said, just change those zeros to ones. That's the best performance configuration out there right now (that I know of). On the video stress test I averaged 300+ frames per second, but then again, I have a beasly compy. :P I got less than 100 without it, so it makes a big difference.

Oh, and you don't have to DELETE Firefox and all of that other stuff, just make sure they aren't running while you're playing CSS. Do Ctrl + Alt + Delete, go to the processes tab, and "End process" on Firefox, Internet Explorer, instant messagers, download managers, firewalls, antivirus, and stuff like that.

if you have an onboard video adapter on both your laptop and desktop, which i presume you do, odds are those 8mbs of memory are being used by it. it's common for onboard cards or lower end cards (less memory) to allocate system memory for video usage.

You might have problems if you are using an intergrated video card.

Yeah, we really have to know your full computer specs before you can decide if you can play it...RAM alone doesnt tell much at all.
