Greetings,

I just got a new motherboard and put it into my PC. I powered up my PC and everything seemed fine until it began booting. The motherboard logo appeared and the Windows logo appeared, but right before booting into Windows it automatically began this "chkdsk" scan. I am wondering whether this is normal and if I should be concerned, because it is taking forever.

Thank you,

Turtlecream

The scan is still going through... I was thinking about interrupting it but I'll just let it finish.

A few weeks ago, Windows crashed and when I tried to restart I saw "disk boot failure." I could not get Windows to boot so I got a new hard drive. The new hard drive was working fine until Windows crashed once more and I got a similar "disk boot error" message. I was able to get it running again, though.

I figured the motherboard was causing the issue so I got a new one. Now, for some reason, this check disk scan started automatically. I will check the connections when the scan completes; I am hoping I was not unlucky enough to get a faulty hard drive or motherboard.

When you install a new motherboard a lot of things change:
IDE-controller
Raid-controller
Soundcard
LAN/Networking-card
Northbridge
Southbridge
BIOS
+ all your current hardware recieves a new IRQ

So, Windows Repair may work...but most likely you may have to do a clean OS install.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I wanted to get a new motherboard anyway. I was getting a new processor and ram so I needed a compatible mobo.

Ok... I'll see if the scan solves the problem, and then check the connections, and then reinstall if none of that works. Thanks.
