Recently, I had to go through a RMA claim for my ASUS Motherboard, The image below should summarize my whole experience with them. *hint read the title and description of the picture*

http://s865.photobucket.com/albums/ab217/RadioDude/?action=view¤t=untitled.jpg&newest=1

Please don't even get me started on their horrible (and lack of) customer service. It took me almost a month to even get this image proof of the so called scratch. By that time, they said they won't do anything about the charge they put on the credit card as it took too late for me to resolve the issue. I really hope some of you can learn from my mistakes of purchasing ASUS products and think twice before buying from them (or going through a warranty claim with them). If this post enlightened at least one person, I'll be satisfied.

So did you scratch the motherboard? If so that's accidental damage and most companies wont cover any form of that.

Ive never had a problem with any Asus product. Its that reason alone why pretty much most of my parts for my new build will be from Asus. Im sorry that you got shafted, but every company has their horror stories.

Unless I'm blind or this person is making up this but I don't see any scratch marks on it at all. Also I'm about to build my self a pc and my Mobo is going to be a ASUS board and a friend of mine highly recommend it to me and so I'm going with them. It is a no wonder that they gave you such a hard time cause from what I don't see if they had a hard time finding scratch marks on it as I did then no wonder they gave you a hard time.

Unfortunately you're not alone 1 of my friends had a faulty Asus board that broke his RAM and video card (shorted them out). It took him so long to get a real response from Asus to the issue he just bought a Gigabyte board, a few months later they actually got back to him and RMA'd the board. That's the sucky thing about IT component companies, everyone is really nice to you while you're buying off them... but when it comes time to get help you're SOL.

I know cause I have a Acer AMD Athlon dual 2.0 and the mobo on it stopped and when I whent to have replace the board it took like 3 months to replace it. I almost whent off and just got another pc instead but I didn't and now it works fine have had it for about 4 years now and everything is ok well except for the HDD lucky I had a second one in it or else I would of been screwed. The HDD stopped working on me.

Daytona_178

Nope, if you look at my profile, you could see that I'm a pretty neat person who takes great care of my computer. The worst part is the board they sent me is an RMA board which actually contains a deep "X" shaped scratch near the CPU socket while still charging me for the price of a brand new board. Also, I didn't mention it but it actually took them a full week after receiving the board (7 days from my tracking information) for them to carefully find that mark. For all I know, they could've made that scratch while holding it in their wearhouse for the 7 days. What really got me angry was the fact that they never gave me a single promised call back from their customer service representitive/manager until a month later when I demanded to speak to someone rather than being promised a call back.

In this situation, I think you have a right to be pissed, they should have replaced it without thinking twice.

I don't mind at all that you purchase ASUS products in the future. The point of this whole post is just to share my horror story and to give you the insight to be very careful with ASUS's warranty claim when the products actually do break down.

Curious...... How'd the scratch get there? Was it a new motherboard in sealed antistatic plastic or was it a refurb? Did you put the scratch in there?

This is the picture proof they sent me after almost a month of inquiry. The motherboard they sent me (and charged me) is a refurbed board. The board I sent them looked perfectly fine when I sent it to them (packaged in antistaticbag, bubble wrap, and put in a cardbord box in which they sent the refurbed MB to me in so it's just the right size) but then again who would notice a light scratch mark like that which is smaller than a diameter of the capacitor if you look closely. Trust me on this: the motherboard they sent me has a VERY deep X shaped scratch which actually warrants as a scratch. I also feel a bit insulted that you woul daccuse me of putting that so called scratch in there and that it warrants ASUS' action in this whole case.

ive not once ever had a problem with their products.. omitting that one time but ill set that aside as a case of just.. stuff happens

for those wodnering basically my first ever mobo from auss i ahd tested at the retail outlet i bought it from.. it posted fine and recognized everything thrown at it.

i took it home and within 1 day of sue after updating drivers i got a BSOD.. so even AFTER it had been tested on sight it still failed to work ye ti ahd done nothing to it to upset it nor did i damge the board myself. my ram sticks worked fine and so did my gpu, cpu and HDD. it only blue screened when i turned on advanced POST monitoring (fully detailed post test during start up).

and when i returned it i just got a replacement board and i was back to me and my happy land of smiles and rainbows ;p

still beyond thata sus's track record is IMMACULATE. be glad you didnt have a diamond multimedia product go bad.. their RMA and tech support is non-existent.. warranty.. what warranty :P

I will say this Asus makes excellent products, but Half of their so called tech support, and customer service DO NOT know what the hell they are talking about! and rely on out-dated information to pass on to their customers.

Immaculate is such a strong world. Have you checked their ratings on Better Business Bureau lately? As I recall, It received a rating of F. It's good that they built up a brand loyalty with you though. I hope the best for you and that your image of them won't be completely shattered when something like this happens to you.

Asus's customer service is a big reason why I won't buy a laptop from them... besides all the BSOD issues they are having.....

Sorry if you feel that way. But such questioning is to be expected from one not knowing the full circumstances of the situation. Now that it's clearer, I think ASUS owes you.

I had issues with a motherboard RMA with ASUS, but I blame that on the crappy Nvidia chipset, cause every other board I have had from them has been rock solid. It was a P5N32-SLI, and I had to RMA it so many times I got on a first name basis with their "third time RMA rep". I feel your pain on this, and if you keep pressing you might get somewhere. But from my experiences most company's have the same quality of support. Great for little easy to fix problems, but once you have a real problem it gets pretty bad.

I am on your side, I hate asus with a passion.. spent over £150 on a crosshair that failed on me after a few months and their customer support is terrible. TWO months later i recieved my new board which refused to boot. checked it over and it looked like someone forced the bios chip in with their hands as their was a massive thumb print on it. Asus refused to co-operate so i lost £150 and I will never buy from them again, NEVER

Agreed. I use Asus products. Although they are great, the tech support is pretty crappy to say the least. Sounds like a huge hassle!

Only the pros could spot a small scratch like that to void warranty. My word.

I had the exact same board never had issues, dont know about the RMA services, components I bought from them always were reliable and of quality. Sometimes someone may get a faulty component, and sometimes the customer is to blame. But if the board was scratched how would it be possible for them to indentify you as the culprit in scratching it, it could have been damaged during shipping or you may have even bought it that way, how can they tell?

In all honesty is it really a scratch?

To my eyes it looks very much like the board have been bent with brute force, with that the inner layers could be broken and this is ceartain a woid warranty.

Have you been uncarefull with the board or did you press it to hard, or is this simply the way you got the board to start with?

hi swehunt, i never used any brute force on it. Infact, I consider myself to be a very careful person, that's why I've never installed the stock heatsink on the motherboard simply because even that I consider to be too much force on the motherboard. Another example of how I take care of my computer is that once i had to bring my desktop home from my school residence. Instead of simply putting it in the trunk, I actually held onto the case from the back passenger seat while i let my dad drive me home. That was to prevent possible vibrations or bumps we might experience on the highway. To put salt on the wound, the email they sent me didn't even have my name spelt correctly. Think how you would feel to be scammed out of your money and not even having your name spelt correctly.

abuabed: don't be afraid, just try to use RMA with ASUS as a last resort option. That's the whole point of this thread. I've never had much trouble with other tech companies in terms of RMA but hey, good streaks don't go on forever. I still consider myself to be lucky that I've only got scammed out of $130. There are many horror stories I've heard where consumers lost so much more.

Luckily for me I've never needed to use RMA before. Good thing is most of todays companies produce high quality products which makes it rare to get into trouble because of a manufacturer's defect.
