I'm an 31 year old gamer and i'm trying to find a good ww2 game that's 'realistic'. I'm thinking something along the lines of a good tank sim such as Panzer Commander or Panzer Elite (not so much.) I'm hoping for a real damage model such as the one in Close Combat (tanks get damaged, tracked, crew killed). I'm not fond of tanks just blowing up like in an arcade game... A good example would also be a game like Operation FlashPoint - long lines of sight, good weapon physics. WW2 Online is also a good example of great physics, being stuck inside the tank etc. I don't care about graphics too much etc.. old games are OK if the game play is rewarding. Basically i'm tired of these arcade-type games... I'm also down for suggestions for a good strategy game and some kind of FPS... Some ww2 or related titles I've enjoyed: Strategy: Close Combat series Panzer General Combat mission (eh..) Company of Heroes (great game) Soldiers (so much potential.... not fully realized game) Panzer Commander Battlefield series Operation Flashpoint Call of duty Wolfenstein (RTCW) Hidden and dangerous Medal of Honor (meh..) I'm sure i'm forgetting some... Anyway, i know there's a flood of ww2 titles out there and i'm browsing around the 'net - i'm hoping there's a diamond in the rough out there somewhere... So far Red Orchestra looks like a promising game... Please let me know what you'd recommend.

RO is a good game however its not as active as it once was I would reccomand it as its quite cheap now. Although the sequel Heroes of Stalingrad will be coming in Q4 this year.

Apparently Arma II has a WW2 mod. I would give that a look.

Men of War, the Theater of War series (Very realistic), Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 (Tank Sim), Red Orchestra + Darkest Hour, Silent Hunter 3 and 4 if you're into sub warfare, IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 for air warfare.

Silent Hunter 3 (you want this version becuase the Starforce protection is removed from it) with Grey Wolf's Expansion Mod and with the SH3 Commander, Front end Loader.

You want World War 2 Online. The most realistic WWII Game you can find. Older playerbase too. I'm 22 and I'm one of the youngest in my entire unit.

Both SHIII and SHIV will do, one is set in the Atlantic and the other is set in the Pacific. Anything after that, I can't recommend due to the new magical torpedos and Ubi's new OSP DRM that will cause problems playing and saving when the Ubi servers take a dump.

Get Panzer General 2, wich is free for download now days. And get Adler corps modifikation for it. Its bit tricky to set it up but there are guides to it and definitly only ww2 turnbased strategy game you will ever need. Adlers mod includes just about all armies from ww2. And they are realisticly balanced. Than just make up your own campaigns and play them. You will allso need scenario editor. As i said it takes some time learning it all, but once you get it all working you wont be looking for a new ww2 game.

Wow, theater of war looks good! Men of War is something i've had an eye on... Achtung Panzer looks reeeeal nice! Sturmovik is definitely a nice game - got that in my collection. PG2 as well - PG and PG2 are one of my favorites of all time. Seems like ww2 Online is really what i'm jonesing for... I've played it the day it came out (so many bugs!) and it was the MOST fun i've ever had in my life of gaming. Its a steep learning curve and it requires a LOT of patience - guess that's why the player base is older and more mature. I can still recollect some guys as if they were my old war buddies... and i even have war stories to tell! :D :D Thank you for the recommendations guys!

If it's a tank sim you're wanting, grab either

T-34 vs. Tiger

or

Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942

oh my... ARMA ww2 mod looks freaking AMAZING... OpFlash (arma) is probably the best all around war sim out there. I'd say its like ww2 online without the massive online part...
