story

PC needs reformat

new isntallation of XP, upgrade to SP2

Install WMP11 (my favorite Media player, and dont try to suggest any other, I have tried them all before WMP11 and I have found this to be the best)

anyway, on the new installation, WMP11 skips the music, uses almost 100% of my CPU, crashes sometimes, and other times just dissapeers

now I have been using WMP11 for like 2 years now without a problem, now on this installation its ALL screwed up

WMP11 is less performancey than before, and I have just upgraded from 512MB 2100 to 1GB 3200 and its worse D:

I have updated and uninstalled and reinstalled, and deleted and re-established the library any one can halp?

sounds like a .dll error. Uninstall then reinstall wmp. (well technicly roll back to wmp 9 or w/e the pre installed version it is, then install wmp 11). On a side note, did you actually reformat (as in deleting the partition with D and confirm with L) or simply install windows over your old windows. Sometimes it happens (including me at one...or maybe 2 points in the past) :P

no this was a reformat

and I already did that to try to fix these problems, it fixed the slow loading files problems

gah I wish my Vista Ultimate Lite would install on my PC without bluescreening :( (this PC is on its last leg, I had to do a couple things to get it to run windows without blue screening (like turning off ACPI)

This means it's time for Mediamonkey, Winamp or Foobar. How can it be the best when it can't even play FLAC............

WMP plays nice when you're dealing with music with titles and artists that are in a different language. Judging by supermechakirt's avatar and sig this might be the case. Give Winamp another shot, here are some instructions to get Japanese to work on Winamp if this is the case:

I am not converting my 20GB Music Library to FLAC to make it 40GB when there is no difference in sound (to me)

MP3 to FLAC wouldn't do anything since the sound quality has already degraded. FLAC works best when you've got yourself a CD and don't want to lose any data ripping it to your computer. Generally, I've found that FLACing makes the file size 5-8 times larger than usual. It's not necessary but some people do end up obsessing over it :). Also, to make the most of it you'd have to invest in a nice pair of headphones or speakers and possibly a sound card. If you're really obsessed you'll get yourself a 700 USD Sennheiser headphone and an amp. All together that might cause 1000 USD to vanish :)
