POLL: Best recent FPS (First-Person Shooter) ?

Nowadays we're seeing the release of quite a few quality FPS and shoot-em-ups in general. Of the above games, what would you say is the best one ? Cast your vote, folks... :)

how the **** are counterstrike and battlefield2 not on the poll?

from the list, idk, most of those games are all meh material.

1.) CSS

2.) Project Reality (BF2 Mod download at www.realitymod.com)

3.) CoD 4

And as shakmaster said how is CS 1.6 or Source and BF2/2142 not on the list

Mass Effect? its not even a FPS. Its not even First Person.

Wait a mintue Falout 3 and mass effect are RPGs not first person shooters.

but i would say crysis.

At the moment =

Online = TF2

Singleplayer = Crysis 2 and Stalker

Good point. The thing is, I tried to keep this with recent games, and also, the poll build options are somewhat limited (5 items only). I think the 5 picks are a good representation of current top notch FPS, but it's subjective of course. :)

Weird list, both Mass Efefct and Fallout 3 are not FPS games... not to mention that Fallout 3 hasn't even been released yet, so nobody knows if it's any good or not

My vote for best FPS goes to Stalker... my second favorite is Duke Nukem 3D

Regarding Mass Effect, well, call it "faux" FPS if you will. The game's combat engine plays and flows as a FPS, with you seeing the terrain on first-person and shooting at enemy targets with your aiming reticule; the game simply has a model of your character on a corner of the screen seen from behind, to give it that third-person touch. They did the same on Rainbow Six Vegas and other FPS.

That is a terrible list.

The first Call of Duty and it's expansion are superior to Call of Duty 4. Mass Effect is a role-playing/THIRD person tactical shooter hybrid. Crysis is solid but built off of a foundation of many already debuted elements. Fallout 3 is not only not out yet but was and is intended to be a role-playing game (whether Bethesda actually makes it one will be a surprise for us all). And Far Cry is the only one actually worth putting on a list like this.

The best FPS is The Ultimate Doom and Doom II: Hell on Earth. They were the first to bring FPS's into the spotlight and establish most of the common elements we have seen from then on.foxhound_fox

agree with all the stuff in the first para, particularly re Crysis and Far Cry - as for Doom, well yes on certain criteria it wins, but in terms of what i'd play again, and much as i love Doom, something like Far Cry or RTCW would win out amongst games that aren't very recent
