STALKER was ok I guess. The better FPS/RPG -hybrid IMO was Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.monco59
that would be the best
Yeah, it's one of my favorite genres.
The only poor fps/rpg hybrids I can think of are the ones released by Silmarils. For example Robinsons Requiem, which you practically needed a medical degree to play. Since you would be injecting yourself with antibiotics, pain killers, amputating your own limbs, and so forth.

The second best. System Shock 2 > all.
I can hardly wait to play bioshock. and about s.t.a.l.k.er. I have nothing to say beacause in my opion is a well thinked game and a very good one. as for dark messiah...I`ve like it. but what about CRYSIS????i know that is not a FPS/RPG or RPG/FPS but I can hardly wait for the game to come on the market!!! it will be a REVOLUTION !!!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Bioshock
Crysis
well if you call "arrange stuff to inventory and add bonus protection with suits" RPG then you're wrong - it's not RPG at all - Dark Messiah is FPS/RPG blend - you learn skills, arrange in inventory stuff,
at least if in STALKER you could add stat points for accuracy with weapon, sprint and fast reload expertise and stuff that would be cool and you could call that FPS/RPG
Too bad Vampire Masuerade was all botched up. I actually have that sittin in front of me atm, been meaning to give it an install n try beating it.SaDiZTiKStyLeZDefinately give it a try, it has a nice number of patches out already, should fix most problems. One of the better RPGs imo.
STALKER has no RPG elements. The only thing remotely similiar to an RPG is the dialog and equipment parts. You dont level, and the game doesnt have a good enough story that often accompanies an RPG.
FPS-RPG blends are games such as System Shock 2, Dues Ex, and Oblivion.
As for the question, yes, its one of the greatest sub-genres of all time. Some of my favorite games are in this genre as well.

I would say that Stalker has more in common with Jagged Alliance than Deus Ex really. It does contain very minor RPG elements (dialogue, item degradation, side quests, inventory system, trader npc's), but they are only really there to enhance the tactical shooter element.

I think I've enjoyed every single hybrid game i've played. Deus Ex 1 and even 2, system shock 2, morrwind, oblivion, vampires... and if and when you guys decideif STALKER was one.... that game too
I kinda agree, it does differ from general FPS slightly by having several endings and a somewhat open-ended gameplay, but I don't think it still quite fits the describtion of RPG, I think someone mentioned making a difference between a FPS/RPG and RPG/FPS - Bloodlines being in the latter sub-genre and Stalker in the first one. I could live with that...STALKER has no RPG elements. The only thing remotely similiar to an RPG is the dialog and equipment parts. So long as the action is "real" (ie: not dice rolls) Im all for it. If I want dice rolls Ill play an RPG sort of RPG. Not the FPS sort.F4ll3n_1I agree, bullets should always do the amount of damage that they are capable of. But for e.g recoil could imo be controlled by points invested in strenght or something like firearms skill.
To me the blend is spot on for sure, it's definitely the best of both worlds imo.
I love FPS's and if you can mix in RPG elements into these games they truly stand out.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is a diamond in the rough, what a great game!!! loved it.
Now STALKER could have been better, but hey at least it came out and it's not to shabby either. 8)
I wouldn't mind playing more FPS/RPG hybrids.
They need to make more FPS/RTS multiplayer games.. Games such as Natural Selection is awesome with a fine mix of shooter with base building, resource elments etc etc.sSubZerOo
Ahhh, and dont forget Battlezone! Sure, it was a tank sim but it sure played like an FPS. There was also another FPS-RTS (with tanks) that came out a while ago that was a blast, I cant remember the name though. Something like Undying or Unyielding or something...
Giants: Citizen Kabuto was kinda FPS/RTS at times, and that was a great game. Can somebody tell me why that game didn't take off?
On topic, I love the FPS/RPG blend, as it takes my two favorite genres and puts them together. Deus Ex is probably the quintessential example of this.
