None of these games are as good as the original Operation Flashpoint, but If I *had* to pick one - I'd pick ArmA 2. The game has serious potential.

Arma 2 is the superior game (in my opinion, of course)...

lol, i actually asked myself this about an hour ago. But after reading the reviews on OF2 i think I am going to stay away from it. Maybe i just didn't read enough into it but apparantly the multiplayer on PC is just like the console version meaning no dedicated servers, can only join lobbies and not games in progress etc. Not sure on the player limits. I figured it would have a larger scope considering they were bragging about maps so large that it would take 9 hours to walk across them.

I am downloading the arma 2 demo on steam right now to check that out.

Depends on what you want out of the game. ArmA2 is more like the original Operation Flashpoint, OF2 is more like Ghost Recon or something.

I wouldn't judge ARMA 2 on the demo. I played the demo and hated it. I was reluctant to purchase the full version but I liked a lot of the additions I read about and really liked the 1st game even though they should have released ARMA 2 instead. The actual full version of ARMA 2 is vastly better than the demo. This is one of those times where I think releasing a demo will actually drive people away from the game. Waiting for my copy of Op Flash : DC so I can way in.

With ArmA 1, Bohemia just plain ran out of money before they finished making the game and had to launch it unfinished to make enough money to finish the game. Europe caught the worst of it by far compared to NA, though.

both are excellent, I recently purchased OF 2 and it is quite fun, despite the "hardcore" players badmouthing.

I will say this, though: OF 2 is playable, ArmA II is not.

So with OF2 I feel like my 40 bucks were well spent. ArmA II has been a waste thus far; it is an excellent game, and its potential is far greater than OF 2, but as it is now, the game is not worth anyone's money.

With OF2, I was able to play for like 3 hours nonstop last night, and two hours this morning. No bugs, no crashes, no quirks...just seamless, fun gameplay.

With ArmA II I admit I had more fun, but for 20 minutes. Then it crashed. Then it wouldnt start. Then I had to reboot my PC. Then I played again for an hour, then it crashed again. It is not like my PC is unusual, either.

*PS: I have not played ArmA II since about a month after its release; if these bugs have been fixed, please let me know and I will give it another chance.

ArmA 2 is the best marketed military sim out there. Ntohing beats it. In the right hands the mission editor allows people to make better missions than BI released with the game.

I sounds like you have never played a good co-op on ArmA 2 with 10+ people. ArmA 2 doesn't shine until you get into those games.

The campaign bugs have largely been squashed as well...

Everyone talks about bugs in ARMA2, but not OFP Dragon Rising. Just started playing OFP DR, and last night my driver just sat there. No matter how many times I ordered him to drive to a certain spot. Eventually just got out and, shot him and drove myself.
I think I'll go back to playing ARMA2, since having bugs in that game is ok since it was made by a much smaller dev team. A bug like I found in OFP DR is unacceptable what with the money Codemasters threw at the dev team.

ArmA 2 also for me, won't get into details since I'm tired to repeat myself. Some people should learn to use the search option on the forum...

ha, so true. I have never seen so many posts before about should I get OFP DR or ARMA2. Thing is ARMA2 is from the developers that CREATED Operation Flashpoint. The franshise got bought out by a bidding war to see who's got the fattest wallet. Codemasters won and took the name Operation Flashpoint.

Codemasters saw the fanbase of Flashpoint and ARMA and decided to try to steal Bohemias original ideas. ARMA2 is more similar to the original Operation Flashpoint though.

Well I bought both, and to me ARMA 2 is just too difficult. OFPDR is much better suited to me.

NO developer, regardless of size and popularity, should released a severely bugged game. NONE.

When I said theyre both awesome, I meant it.

ArmA II has excellent potential, and its depth is simply stunning

Operation Flashpoint 2 is lite ArmA "lite", but it still has a lot of depth and is a ton of fun.

IIRC it wasn't more like that - OpFlash came out as a regular developer/publisher relationship between BIS and Codemasters. As was the norm, Codemasters owned the rights to the OpFlash name as part of their publishing deal with BIS. After OpFlash came out, Codemasters, for a bunch of reasons (many probably legit!) told BIS 'no, we don't want you to make another game, and no, you're not allowed to make an OpFlash sequel. Good luck!' So BIS had to run off on their own and do their own thing.

OPF2 because its more like a playable singleplayer game with quality campaign and not a simulator full of bugs. I belive i made my case clear, i want something closer to a GRAW or rainbow six than a America's Army.

I just Got My copy of OFP: 2 and its Awesome the single player is great and the multiplayer is good I had a bad idea about Codemasters but they did a good job
