Poll: The only FPS to be played before the year ends!!

This year has proven to be a good year for PC FPS fans. While a lot of you guys would no doubt buy more then just one of the above titles. what would you do if you truly can only own one of the games?

Granted that some of these games has already been release. But what if there was only one title to be released this year, what is the game that will give you the most enjoyment as you blast off one guy after another on the road to the King of the Hill!

My most wanted titles are Crysis, Orange Box and Unreal Tournament III. But if I have to make a serious choice. then it would no doubt be Unreal Tournament.

Sorry Gorden Freeman, I love your story, but I know deep down inside you are just another scientist trying to get by. Try to exercise more and maybe some steroid use will make you more like the hero you are claiming to be!

Crysis, ah the visual, but UE3.0 has proven itself on games like Gears of War and Bioshock. On the more important side, your predcessor FarCry did not fare so well gameplay wise as much as Unreal had been? Graphics? yes. But if I choose UT III, I get to have all the fun with enough eye candies to rival you as well.

So what would be your choice? Choose and defend your title!

I've got to go with crysis, well I already got the oraange box, but crysis is the game to have. They have only showed small amounts of the game even though they have showed them to death.

I haven't heard much on crysis recently so that leads me to believe that the team is hard at work getting it perfect (hopefully). October 26 should be a great day!

EASILY COD4 for me, i play COD2 competetively, and i can't see any of those other games being anywhere near as enjoyable on a competetive level as COD4 promises to be, for casual gamers though i suppose Crysis or Unreal could be good...B0ingMan

COD:4 is the same game as COD:1 but with a different setting and better graphics. There is NO AI, the firefights are boring, the scripted sequences are 90's and for God's sake, where is the ******** AI>>>????

You should stop playing COD:2 competitively, Bong Man, and either start playing with yourself, or playing with Crysis MP Beta... it's sure to rock your sock!

I personally would prefer to play Counter-Strike as well, and I just finished Portal recently. But if I have to buy a game that I know I will play 6-7 months down the road, UT3's about the only one that would make it that far. It isn't that I like UT3 more then CS, it's more of the fact that CS is not part of Orange Box's content. That being said, it then is pretty easy for me to justify for buying UT3 as I know i probably will only get crysis for the single player.

CoD4 could have been a contender, unfortunately they betrayed PC gamers with CoD3.... I may buy the game for console though since I think that series probably would be tweaked more for console now.

Orange box-Interested mainly for portal, it's a good deal, and I may like TF2 as well but I dunno.I plan on just asking for it as a b-day present so I don't feel guilty about spending the money if I don't like it ;)

Then again, I enjoyed Quake world more even after HL was out, which was way too slow for me.

i don't really like these threads much... i don't like having to choose, since i'm choosing almost all of them, but my take anyway:

quake wars: i loved quake in the q2-3 era, but i really think it's a dead line now... i got little out of the quake wars demo, and don't feel like i'll ever need to bother with the full game

crysis: i'm not fond of farcry at all, but crysis looks better - not just visually, but the gameplay mechanics and tools being added strike me as an improvement, and aliens are cooler than mutants, so that appeals more... plus, if the wysiwyg editor is as easy to use and powerful as it looks, then crysis is going to be one of the most entertaining games of the year for me

call of duty 4: i don't care for the multiplayer, but i love the classic call of duty singleplayer gameplay, and as far as i'm concerned, a more-of-the-same game right now is great, looking forward to cod4

orange box: episode 2 looks great, but short, portal looks awesome, but short, tf2 looks awesome, but i don't play much online fps - in short, orange box looks awesome, but short

UT3 - i've got the demo, which has 3 maps and 4 gameplay modes... that's enough for me - i've never been a huge UT fan, but i don't feel like i need UT3... at least not until it's pocket change cheap

i guess if i had to pick a single game, it would be crysis - not for the visuals, but for the level editor... but i want three of the games on the list, and a fourth i plan on buying at some point, probably... only quake wars strikes me as not worth playing

i think crysis will be the "best" but i think cod4 will have the longest replay. the orange box is nothing special, if each game would have been released and reviewed seperate, i doubt any of htem would have got over a 8.0 rating, the only reason it got a 9.5 was bc it was so many games for so little money. also, gears of war isnt up there which is going to be great and comes out this yearncderek

Teach me how to add 6th choice on there and I would entertain the idea. Beside, Gears of War was already released on another system, it's hard to justify it being in the game for end of this year. Not to mention the fact that the PC port of Halo still leaves me with bad taste in the mouth.

sadly none of them, my crappy onboard video card can't deal with those heavy games...

I bought Quake Wars and I'm impressed. I like a lot the mp fps and usually play a lot BF2 and sometimes Quake 4, F.E.A.R. and the lovely UT 2004, and the style of game in QW, based on objectives, coordinated gameplay and assymetrical classes with different functions is amazing well done in this game. IMO BF2 is better to my tastes, but aftera year playing it intensly I was needing a change and QW is great. Once yo known how to play the maps and the different clases the game is really fun. The graphisc are correct, not uber but the game runs well in medium and low systems.

UT III: now playing the demo, impressive optimization but low res textures launched in this demo. The gameplay is frenetic as ever and the visuals will be uber in the full game, but as long as I known the Warfare mode will be notso ambitious as in BF2 and Quake Wars. I love to see my game stats and military ranks rising in BF2 & QW, and UT III probably don't support permanent stats. Sure, UT III will be more spectacular, but I'm not sure about his nlongevity. The gameplay is more stressing...

COD 4: the mp seems like BF 2142 with customizable equipment but also with "perks" which can turn your guy into a self-made roleplaying-fps character, but without the vehicles from BF and QW. I love mp with classes, this could be an amazing rival against BF2 and QW mp. The sp campaign seem so linear and scripted to my tastes.

Crysis: FC was with RTCW my favourite sp campaign, and this seems better, but I'm looking towards the mp. Seems similar to BF2, but without the classes. Sadly, destructable enviroments and dynamic day/night cycle in mp will be only allowed in DX 10 servers... Awesome graphics, must said.

Also consider: Hellgate: London Marksman class; playing a fully customizable shooter character in a high fantasy world in cooperative against the monsters and competittive duels...

Let's start with the winner first. I'd definetly choose COD4, because the COD 1 and 2 were both awesome games and from what i saw from the demo it's bound to live up to it's name.

TheOrangeBox I have that one and for those of you wondering if you should buy it ... yes. As always the Valve engine does miracles and half life 2 and the episodes are pretty sweet games, and Portal is also a nice addition. The only thing wrong with it is that all three( HL ep1,2 and Portal) are very short.

Ut3if it lives to it's name maybe ,but it's not entirly my type of game.

Crysis is so highly regarded with promised unseen graphics and als ounseen high specs .I have a gut feeling that it might be a big disapointment.

Quake wars i heard mainly bad things from a friend so no thanks.

Orange Box FTW! Although I must say...I was kinda disappointed by Portal...it seemed a bit too short. 2 hrs of gameplay just aren't enough :roll:.
