I know there has been one in the past, I wanted to do another one to see where people are with this, not just the vocal minority that seems to be complaints only. I personally have had zero problems with it so I am curious to see if this is the norm or if this OS has been given a bad rap by the grapevine.

The only problem with Vista I've had so far is with not enough RAM. Some games use a ton of ram and tend to conflict with Vista over the 2GB that I am currently running. Other than that I've had no problems.

.... wheres the option for owning Vista but uninstalled it. I liked Vista, just had a couple of driver problems with its, but I was cool with it. I only had to uninstall it cuz my 8800GTS kept locking everytime I played a game, again driver problem. I think thats all fixed now, but I'm too lazy to install Vista again. I like Vista though, nice interface, DX10, well pretty much all I wanted it for is DX10.

People wouldn't have as big a problem with Vista if their selective memories didn't keep them from recalling that XP was also roundly criticized before SP1. But now XP is great. It's actually pretty amusing. And then the next OS will come, and people will say they're sticking with Vista, like they're doing now with XP/Vista, and like they did in the past with 2k/XP. It's so predictable.

Exactly. I will get Vista eventually, after MS gets the rest of the kinks out and most new games are Vista only.I don't see the point in putting out the money right now if I don't need to.

Never ending driver issues, especially with my so called "vista compatible" motherboard and just about all it's features minus the lan driver...

Getting new motherboard and more ram isn't an option for me, I'm a cash strapped student :/ For the time being, I'll stick to XP.

Never ending driver issues,

Nuchaleft

Same here, every time I updated a driver for anything it seemed that it wouldn't work or caused a million issues, unless I waited until the next Vista update, then the updated drivers worked fine.

Other kinds of devices only half worked, like my printer/fax/scanner (which I couldn't fax on because I'm cheap and wouldn't shell out for the 'better' version of Vista, I had Home Premium), that wouldn't scan, Vista didn't even recognise it had a scanner either, even though the drivers were for Vista. I could have lived with it, but I bought it for a reason and actually needed the scanner.

I uninstalled Vista last week, I don't think I'll touch it again.

I'd have to say that I loved vista, but I only had 2 gigs of ram and it just didn't work, plus I noticed one nice little microsoft trick. Where as task manager inXP shows page file usage, vista only displays ram usage. So when XP says like 350 megs and vista says 350 megs it is a whole different world. Then I tried it with 1 Gb of ram, then 2Gb and I noticed that at idle it was using between 300-400MB of ram and at 2Gb,700Mbto 1 Gb of ram....at idle! So I went back to XP 64-bit until a year or two from now when I will get a new PC, with more than 4 gigs of ramand use vista.

I upgraded my system from Windows XP Home to Windows Vista Ultimate x64 about a month ago. I increased my memory from 2gigs DDR2 800 PC-2 6400 to 4gigs and upgraded my GPU to a FOXCONN 8800GTX.

I have been experiencing instability issues such as freeze ups while working in websites and during in-game play and occasional system crashes. I have also had problems with using some features such as spell check and compatibility issues with certain pieces of hardware, old & new (which was to be expected) which din't have current drivers available. I also notice that Vista runs slower than XP and games don't seem to run as well.

Now having mentioned all this, I really don't know if some of these issues such as the freezing and crashing is a direct result of Vista....I my be having problems to the hardware upgrades I mentioned earlier. I also OC myCPU (E6600) from 2.4GHz to 3.0Ghz, so there may be some issues there with settings and heat. Which at this point don't seem to be quite right.

All in all,I feel Vista has the potential to be a very good OS, though it does seem to take a lot to run it properly. I keep reading about many people that are using a system setup very similar to mine that are very happy with the way Vista is performing. I'll just have to get these kinks worked out and then see how I feel about it.

I don't have many problems with vista. Just the fact that Homeworld one doesn't work. But I have a laptop and SP1 should fix that.

I haven't had many problems with Vista but the ones I have had have been due to drivers rather than Vista itself. Most of what I've heard people complain about have been due to drivers but they tend to just dump the blame on Vista and revert back to XP.

Also Vista seems to be abit bad with wireless, don't know whether that was due to drivers as well but I could never get a wireless stable for more than a couple of hours, soI just hard wired and had done with it.

As for Vista being slower, yes it is a little slower but most of the speed decrease is due to the hard drive indexing that Vista defaults to. If you disable the search features and turn off hard drive indexing Vista speeds right up and runs fairly smooth.

From what I've read also, Vista will get a big speed boost from SP1, so I guess with that Vista will be as fast and usable as XP is.

In a years time, I don't think there will be any reason not to upgrade to Vista (for home users at least, it'll take a lot more for Vista to be useful in business).

Have fun

I have Vista and I don't like it. It's slower, harder to use, and is just worse than XP. A lot of people complain about their system not running a game good enough...well if you have Vista, that's your problem. I can run Crysis with my 8800GTS on high while my friend w/ Vista is on medium w/ a 8800GTX.

VISTA IS FINE. Buy 2GB of ram (less than 50 bucks now) and you'll see that it really isn't a "resource hog," it has just bumped the bar up for the required amount of ram. I've had 3 problems with Vista. 1: Soundcard was tricky to install, but once I did, it works fine. 2 and 3. Dark Messiah and Silverfall would not work under Vista, but both are forgettable and it's not really a problem. I actually love Vista and will never use XP (for my main rig) again.

I have been using vista for several monthes and for me it has been an improvement. It is better than XP IMO. There have been a few minor compatability issues but this is to be expected with a new OS. I would never go back to XP.

The only problems I have are that there aren't drivers availible for everything (but this will be fixed in time)

and that my IE7occasionally freezing when I launch it

other than that, I have no complaints. Our Airbase is in the process of switching over but I think they delayed it because of the whole driver issue

They've done a lot of hard work on Vista under the hood, better networking, better UI etc. Developers are going to love it.

As a customer, I must admit the price made me gulp. But it's the "showing off" that truly gets me. Just try this out - select a file for deletion, cancel when asked to confirm, and Vista throws up a progress bar "Cancelling Deletion" that takes a second or two to complete. Why?

Once SP1 is out, expect much better speeds and memory usage. Driver issues will be sorted out in due course of time. Vista has plenty of promise, too bad it needs the next generation of PC hardware.

Dark Messiah runs under Vista just fine.. 32bit Home Premium

In fact it ran on my 600 USD laptop which is amazing since the vid card is crap.. (it has Vista installed there) My base comp still uses XP Pro SP2.

I have Vista installed on my laptop since I bought it last year when all the major companies switched to Vista. I have XP on my Desktop. I have to say I like the interface of Vista and have had absolutely no problems with it on my laptop (I used to play WoW and I still play CSS on it) no crashes or lockups ever. That said the lack of driver support it highly frustrating at time, I haven't seen a new graphics driver in almost a year also some of the file saving system especially for videos and pictures is a little annoying.

When I buy my new PC in march I will probably get XP Pro just because of how much memory Vista eats up and how it actually gets worse performance than XP in a lot of games. There is also veyr little that can be done in DX10 that can't be done in DX9. That said I still like it on my laptop, its just when I am buying a gaming rig I want to maximize the performance and Vista is definatly not capable of that presently.

ina ll honesty i have had little to known but i have never had a problem with hardware, It seems liek all the stuff that never does good is good for me. But to be honest i think the people who are having problems with it are the people who have weaker computers and since vista is more demanding they have had problems with it. But yea i have had little to no problem

the fact that you say they need to buy 2gigs of ram for vista proves that vista IS a resource hog. vista is terribly bloated code-wise. just look at linux and apple's OS. they dno't need nearly the requirements of vista. and, no, i'm not an apple or linux fanboy- don't have either. the only reason anyone uses xp or vista is because

A.) people don't know how to use linux and don't want to learn how

B.) apple won't unlock it's OS to work on non-apple hardware

and

C.) GAMES

if people didn't have these obstacles, no one would use MS.

I find it interesting the number of people who say they just won't get it if they can help it. I mean, you never tried it, you have to just be going on what you heard. THe number of people who have had little to no problems far outnumber those who have it and had too many problems.

I personally hate Windows and all of the problems you have with it. Viruses, trojan horses, spam, spyware. It's annoying and a little nerve racking at times, but I love gaming on PC's. I hate everything about Windows, in general (Mac man for everything else, DON'T SHOOT! :)), but the gaming is the best part. In my current rig, I have Windows XP and Vista dual booting off my Raptor. I use XP most of the time for web browsing and using iTunes, and Vista for playing games in Dx10.

I do video editing, so, naturally, I use the Mac platform for my multimedia creation and for its smooth operating system. I love DirectX 10 in Vista. On my Mac Pro, I have Vista installed via Boot Camp, as well as my iMac and MacBook Pro.

I have been using Vista since 4 months ago & have never face any problems with software or games. The only problem I did face was my Network & Sharing Center does not properly configured to my D-Link router modem to connect to internet. After doing some research, I found out it is quite common problems for others as well. I did manage to solve it by configuring manually instead of it doing automatically. I did not face this problem with my Win XP laptop which the Network automatically detect & connect to internet with the modem.

Overall I am very satisfied with my Vista PC.

It's so predictable.Zeliard9

Well, the Win98 to XP shift is still fresh in my memory, I recall that XP was just so goddamned more demanding....
I honestly still feel tempted to check out this unofficial service pack to 98 I keep hearing about which supposedly makes it just as stable as XP.

But really, the only reason why I started using XP is because I practically had to. They're doing the same with Vista now, too. How long will it be until hundreds of programs go Vista only, or at least drop their support for XP. That's what I'm wondering.

Out of the box, Vista consumes too much harddrive space. The system restore system uses much more space than it did on XP. On install, it will instantly reserve about 15% of your harddrive space for Shadow Copy alone. Then, each time you boot up or each time you install a new program, it will reserve about 1 gig for each new system restore point. Gobble, gobble, gobble. . . what a turkey of an OS.

Minor issues with playing older games but im guessing thts expected, or there are maybe patches I can download?

This is a major complaint of mine with PC gaming though - game compatability. I have a sickening love-hate relationship with PCs. Love the games, yet im practically a technophobe.
