I prefer digital, as some websites have an unlimted install policy, while some actually keep up with patches and install them for you.:)

Digital for me. I don't really feel any need to have a physical copy. I spend a lot of time on the computer, so it's easier to just buy a game online and download it. Plus I don't have to drive to the store.

Disc. I'd switch to digital if the prices were massively different. As it stands, I've seen a lot of games retail for substantially less than DD.

DD boxes are waste of space and I don't think I've read a manual in my life.

Whilst I have a reasonable digitial collections, 80% of my games are disc. Grandpa here likes something tangible when parting with cash. 8)

I prefer to buy from disc, because you can usually find a sale price at the store. Downloadable games never go on sale, until at least a year or two. But I prefer to install by downloading, because it is more convenient and I don't have to keep a disc around to play.

I prefer steam because of the auto patching and not having to search for the dvd if you want to play. Only trouble is, although digital purchases should be far cheaper, they're actually more expensive so I find myself buying a lot of games from play.com.

I don't know what it is, maybe they're charging for the convenience and there's probably a novelty tax since it's a relatively new way of purchasing.

Case in point, I preordered left 4 dead on disc from play because it was 5 quid cheaper than buying it from steam, the people who made the game :?

SO I prefer digital, but if the disc is 5 quid or more cheaper (it usually is) I'll buy the disc.

I prefer a Disc, but I'll happily buy via DD, such as Steam.

Disc is always better.

Steam is only a last resort for something I can't find in a physical store.

Maybe it's the pricing issue. Steam seemed universally cheap a while back, yet now I keep seeing threads about retail games being much cheaper, which really makes no sense.

For me it's the complexity of the game..If it takes a large manual to get into the game i prefer the physical copy.....Imagine Dominions 3 on steam with a 300 page pdf manual..No thanks...games that are easy to get into DD is fine.

TV, and sites like this one are constantly pushing digital download - so it seems like that's what most people want. The truth is - that's NOT what most people want. My cell phone company just sent me a letter, saying they were going to charge me an extra $1.50 a month, unless I started receiving and paying my bill exclusively online - - so I dropped them. I'll be looking for a new cell phone provider now - but I'm not going to be bullied into conducting my business online - if I don't want to.

Physical copy. Always. (Unless the DRM's horrible and requires online activation, anyway.) With a physical copy, I get that feeling of OWNERSHIP, along with manuals and other sorts of documentation and trinkets. In fact, I miss the days when PC games used to come in those HUGE boxes packed with a good-size manual and other little items (especially Infocom titles and their "feelies"). Also, not everyone has a Tablet PC or similar device like I do for reading those .PDF manuals. Playing something like Falcon 4.0: Allied Force while not being able to look at the manual in-sim without trying to Alt-Tab between the two all the time would, quite frankly, suck.

Digital distribution for me. I have so many games that I'm always losing discs and cd-keys. I've actually bought Warcraft 3 three times over the years because I lost the disc.

i like reading manuals but i would have rather have the convenience of not having to worry about storing and recovering disks and cd keys. if it's like an mmo or valve games where the key and disk are unnecessary once you have added the key to your account, i prefer the hard copy. otherwise DD is just more convenient (cheaper for me, too).
