Ok so i just got the witcher and it is an awesome game.

However i get alot of framerate drops in this first level, sometimes dipping into low 40's and high 30's. I should be able to run this game no problem on my rig(GTX 285, 12gb ram, intel core i7)

Is this normal? If so what settings should i drop to gain the most frames?

I have a 9800gtx+ and i have no problems with the game and have never run into any performance drops, I also am running a Q9400 stock, and 4 gigs of DDR2.

I didn't check my fps but i felt like i was running at 60fps all the time. Didn't feel any drops i also ran this game on a single core cpu before i think @2.0ghz aswell and it ran fine around 30fps with a 7900GT.

You do realize that just because you have 12GB or RAM doesn't mean that your games are programmed to use or even recognize that much. Also the iCore wasn't out when the Witcher was released so you have two cores not being utilized. Having a killer rig doesn't always assure you of smooth gameplay, especially with older games.

You do realise that a lot of people would kill for framerates of low 40s and high 30s right? :| Stop complaining and play your game.

The issue is that since i am so used to getting at least a solid 60fps when i get drops from 70 to 30fps i can feel it and its really disrupting to the game. I love the game and will play it regardless of fps.

Also to the other poster, even though the game isnt using all of my ram or all of my processor, it should still be more than enough to handle this game.

You do have the EE edition right? The original version isnt very well optimised but the EE edition cleaned it up a lot and it runs smooth for me.

It was a 1 day sale on STEAM. To fix the problem, go turn off hyperthread cores on your I7 or set the game affinity correctly. YOu are most liekly using a real cpu core and a hyperthreaded one causing the fps problems.

No, it wasn't, it has been 66% off since the beginning of the sale. It still says that it's 66% off on the front page (All atari games 66% off).

It's only 33% now, but it was 66% from the start of the sale until today.

It still says that it should be 66% off on the steam frontpage.

If that's the case, it might actually be worth contacting them and ask about that.
