Poor preformance on new GTX 460.

Today I installed my new GTX 460. To my sursprise I've been getting no increase in preformance over my old 9800gt. Clearly something is wrong I already have the latest drivers.

if you are playing games that didn't cause problems for the 9800 you wont see a difference in performance...

we need more info.

i made the upgrade from the 8800( almost the same as 9800) to the 460 and the difference was huge

I've tried Metro, ARMA 2, Mafia 2, The Witcher and Empire: Total War. The only game that ran better was Empire, even then only slightly.

Not sure if this would help, but did you perform a clean install of the drivers by removing any video drivers that remained before?

We need more info. I went from a gts 250 to a gtx 460 and its been about a 90% increase in gaming fps (using playclaw to measure fps). You have the exact card I have (your sig is off its 758mb not 756).. What is your resolution you gamign at? Could be a ton fo things. Could be you have alot of processes running hogging your cpu which is more effectiong you, could be as members above stated a drivers issue. Something definitely is not right if you are getting the exact same performance.

I would run through all the general stuff. Disk defrag, check disk, virus scans, check processes running, check services running, make sure to do a complete fresh install of drivers, make sure driver options in nvidia control panel is right.

I would also get trial playclaw or fraps and see what your fps is (on games that don't let you see it).

Delete your drivers, clean the registry, clean it with pinesol (jk). Install fresh official drivers from Nvidia, the beta drivers gave me screen tear.

Disabled and reinstalled drivers, seems to be working much better. I'll test a few more games to tell for sure. Thanks for the tips though.

I wonder what kind of performance I'd get with my HD 5870. I play at 1920x1080.

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but it may be because you're running a 32-bit operating system. The processor and RAM cannot perform at full capacity because of the operating system's architecture. But I'm doubting what i just said. Update your drivers, try some other games (because code optimization determines how well games run), and try cranking settings to max. I'm willing to bet your 9800gt wouldn't have been able to handle 1080p maxed out Crysis as well as this new card can. Adam_the_Nerd
